J <br /> classrooms . <br /> - New intermural gyri. 45 , oo sq feet. They wanted it designed <br /> and built in 6 months , It was a design/build effort. They met <br /> the schedule and came in on budget. It is a metal frame building <br /> with sports surface floor . 6 basketball courts and indoor <br /> running track. <br /> IBM facility in Southbury, Conn, M r. Freeman explained the <br /> history of the project. They did the feasibility study for a <br /> 225 ,000 acre site. They did not want to see the building from <br /> the main street. strict wetland laws . There was 750, 000 sq feet <br /> of offices, 600 seat dining facility , 120,000 sq feet of computer <br /> rooms and 6 of the offices had to have windows . They designed <br /> 4t as a campus type community with a series of smaller facilities <br /> ( buildings) . They stared construction in mid 1986 and it opened <br /> in Jan, 19s , 6 Months ahead of schedule. They cleared 1 1 0 acres <br /> of woodland , created a pond for the water run off. Since thea , <br /> IBM has cut back on its use of the building and are leasing some <br /> of the buildings, The Director of Real estate for IBM has s i nce <br /> left IBM and hired BTA to renovate the Prudential center. <br /> Mr. Ricci said their vision of Mashpee high school is to create <br /> your vision . They wanted to show some of the work of BTA and <br /> Holmes and Edward to show how they respond to the clients needs <br /> They make buildings which endure, they do not become stylized ,. <br /> They presented a list of consultants they propose working with . <br /> They have worked with all those people before. <br /> They had one question for the committee - who will tell us what <br /> the community wants' <br /> QUESTIONS <br /> Bill a rt i ros- what influences are of concern to you, regarding <br /> the site i .e. relationship to Mash pee Commons , performing ants <br /> center? <br /> BTA responded they will start with a series of diagrams for the <br /> master plan , where the entrance is will influence the site <br /> greatly, The town planner has probably l oohed at the influences <br /> along the „spine" ( 151 ) of town. They will see what planning has <br /> been done. The building will reflect the town's aspirations, as <br /> it develops . The Committee will articulate to us and it will grow <br /> out of your land. Architecture is of place and material <br /> Bill asked if there is an advantage to using a mixture of <br /> materials on the outside? <br /> There i s an advantage because it will break it up, bring it into <br /> scale. The ability of the material to be maintained is the major <br /> consideration, <br /> Paul Griffin said he saw some very creative wo r but did not see <br /> a lot of school projects, have you done many high schools? <br /> BTA responded they have not. Bennington High was completed in <br /> 1970, Andover Academy they did science, arts and dormitory <br /> facilities. They do have past high school experience and the <br /> 3 <br />
