It makes sense to use a
Massachusetts group. They will make recommendations to the
Committee but ultimately h MA i s responsible for the end product.
They will also use the best acoustic consultant they can find for
the theater.
Bill Jones asked if they have the capabilities to run prices on
the wish list, as it is being discussed-.? .
M r. F renette said cost estimates are proportional to the
information i n. They have a system of cost control which allows
them to analyze a system or parts of it to ensure they stag
within the budget. It is a catch 2
questions. can this Committee mare the decisions needed for SMMA
to progress? If you tape advantage of every minutes of time i t
can probably be done .
Is there ars additional cost to phased construction?
M r. F renette said it will cost more but relative to the entire
project, where it is finished, i t i s not a huge prearium.
Merry Sue h 1 ren thought the use of linoleum was interesting .
What other kinds of material do they recommend and are new and
interesting in school design?
Mr, F renette said it is hard to heat brick for the outside.
Clapboard has a much shorter life expectancy. Interior best is
usually finished o r painted block. Sheet rock is more desirable.
In Mantuc k they used concrete pumice block, it has good
acoustical absorption and it has worked successfully. For gyms
traditional wood floor has again become the preference over
tubber floors.
Joe Polito asked if they can guarantee us a dedicated team to
complete this project based on their work load now?
M r. F renette said ,yes absolutely,,
He suggested the Committee spear with Kim Smith . oneyear later
they are still following through on that{ project.
