They minimize the flat roof area. They tried <br /> to create the scale of a village. <br /> Mr <br /> wh r i tenon r asked if they made any major functional sacrifices <br /> for this design vs . the traditional compact design? <br /> Mr. <br /> Ho i t aid no. The sketch was just to give the Committee a <br /> sense of their thoughts on the design . They do advocate pitched <br /> roof and natural lights <br /> Al Fro l s i asked what they would consider the cost effectiveness of <br /> that design to be, would that design cost more? <br /> Mr. Hoi t said it would not have a higher cost. It is very <br /> appropriate for a 1350 pupil high school . The lowest cost is a <br /> shoe box with a lot of interior space but then there are added <br /> mechanical costs f o r i n to r i o r ven t i l at i on and air conditioning . <br /> THE DESIGN PARTNERSHIP of CAMBRIDGE <br /> Present were Doug Flockhart, founder , David Finney, Bill <br /> Brainard Peter constable from TDPC and Peter Evans from <br /> Universal Engineering and Roger l al l strum, Landscape Architect <br /> Mr, Flockhart said the firm was founded in 1980 . Frior to that <br /> he was a Vice Rresident at Earl F l ans bu rg. He designed T high <br /> schools with that firm. He also wrote 3 sets of educational <br /> specs for F l ans bu r g . He has since written 7 specs for high <br /> schools and middle schools with Design Partnership. <br /> He asked the committee to remember 3 words which are the key to <br /> their approach - choice, ba1a Ice and context. <br /> The key issue effecting Mashpee's pro 'ect are educational <br /> technology , site planning issues and project management and <br /> project control ,, <br /> He presented examples of their previous work (some while he was <br /> with F l ans bu rg) * <br /> Marlboro High school for 2 ,800 students. 3 houses , each with <br /> an administration center . Very compact, c i rcu 1 at i on is limited. <br /> An efficient net to gross ratio. Auditorium' s back wall are <br /> demountable but fixed seating reduces f l e i bi l i ty t <br /> - Methuen - 2 , 500 student. 8 teaching station field house and a <br /> hockey rink larger than Boston Garden. <br /> Pittsfield- addition and renovation including a pool and TV <br /> studio. <br /> - Rockport high school - 180 ,000 sq ft of new construction. <br /> Community use spaces, auditorium i to r i us used extensively . 450 seats , <br /> lighting system f o r theater, removable seats , tiered seating in <br /> 6 <br />
