the Sept. 1996 date be delayed?
The Committee agreed that it could not .
Peter said he does not want to jeopardize the quality of the building .
Could it be completed by Oct-Nov . ?
Janice asked where the students would go for those months?
Bill said double sessions is an option . He would rather do that than
jeopardize the quality of the school .
Janice said SMMA got the contract because they said they could work within
the timeframe.
Ms . Scarlett said TAMS is noting their concern . SMMA is not saying they
can ' t do it.
Paul noted the Committee has been reviewing during the process , not just
waiting until the end of the phase to review, which saves time .
Ms . Scarlett just wanted to make the point of what can be lost because of
the tight schedule - coordination between trades .
Paul said coordination is key . We will pay for lack of coordination . As a
last resort we can put out to bid a portion of the job to get the
foundation in , that buys time .
The Committee has already been advised about the extra cost and problems
associated with opening the school with only a portion completed .
Tony Esteves said you must provide all educational facilities to the State
to open , that doesn ' t leave much work except for finishing items .
Steve asked Ms . Scarlet her realistic estimate of the stretch required?
She responded if you could stretch the bid date to March and start
construction June 1 . She does not know what the minimum construction time
is.
Paul , Ian and Tony Esteves agreed 16 months is minimum.
If you start construction by April 1 , you could make it by Sept . 1996 .
SMMA ' s original schedule showed construction starting March 1-15 and
continuing to Sept . I .
Bob Fournier said they will evaluate the effect on the schedule when this
phase has been completed and will then present a revised schedule and
anticipated construction schedule.
Peter asked Shannon the probability of opening in Jan 1997 and Sept 1996?
She said the probability for Jan 1997 pretty high , pretty low for Sept
1996 . There is time in the schedule but it has to be used wisely.
Peter said the school department will have to come up with a contingency
plan if the school is not ready , for 400 students .
Dr . DeMoura said they will have to work it out.
Bob Fournier said there is a good chance it is deliverable with hard work
and careful coordination .
Ian said it is critical to be on schedule at the end of this phase .
Program Review- Ms . Scarlett feels it needs some additional work to get to
the finished product . How will you equip and set up your spaces? There is
very little high tech/computer in the program.
Paul explained there are 2 subcommittees to deal with the finishing and
they are working on it .
Has this program been confirmed against the FSSB guidelines, confirmed
against the Ed . Specs?
Merry Sue explained that is what we started with before we got to this
2
