then students inside are looking out at parking lots.
George thinks the bus drop off is great,
Peter asked how far the closest par ing is to the main entrance?
At the Middle school it i s about 120 feet, this is about half of that.
Nancy said the aerial view is good but the elevations are boring , not
attractive, she has not heard any positive things from town hall employees
about the design. Aesthetically , she doesn ' t find it very interesting . I t
is sad they are not taking advantage of the site and are enclosing the
school . It is not reaching out to the outdoors. we should charge our
attitudes and develop confidence in our youth ,
Merry sue made a motion to send the architects forward with
approval of this plan. Janice seconded the motion . A 1 1 members
were in favor -0.
Nancy asked if they will bring this to the Selectmen or to the pub 1 i c for
input?
Merry sue asked what she meant by input? This process has been open to the
public. The architects held a c h arette at the beginning of the design
process that was open to the public.
Nancy asked why can' t the public give their input, their view of the
building and how it looks?
Merry Sue said the committee has done that; This Committee was told to go
forward and build a building to open in September 1996 . what k i nd of
changes can be expected to be made from community input? These schemes
have been at the library for 2 months and displayed in town hall .
Janice said all these meetings are public. The committee was appointed and
the public must rely on thea to do what is in their best interest. There
was plenty of opportunity for input.
Merry sue suggested setting up a series of panels for town meeting .
Everyone agreed that is a good idea.
Bete rsaid, in the meantime, the architects must keep moving forward .
George costa said the committee has done a good 'ob. I t is a great idea to
show the community the work you have done. The only thing for the
community to decide now is the swimming pool .
Peter said to change things now can cost months and hundreds of thousand of
dollars in design costs. The committee would be remiss to ask the
architects to stop working on this design .,
George said the committee has done a good job, the community has to accept
what they have done -- show it off,
Can the model be ready for town meeting?
Bob said it cannot. They will do new renderings and an overall site plan
for town meeting.
Tom F uda l a had to leave the meeting so he commented on the traffic study.
VH B has already by hired by the town to do a traffic study as part of the
local comprehensive plan. He wants to be sure the work is not being
duplicated .
Bob Fournier will coordinate with Greg and Tom to make sure there are no
duplication of services.
