Mike Pietrowski said they should look at the video system - will it be
interactive with computers? Any system should last 10 years and be easily
adaptable to handle technology changes as they happen . He would like to
attend the technology meeting . The Committee should consider expendability
- can you still use the computer with the latest technology. It is his
recommendation to go with a centralized system.
Paul said the Committee will have to see how much they have to spend and
prioritize.
Steve said he is prepared to do a presentation and bring everyone up to
speed on technology issues . SMMA can decide who will represent them. The
Committee would like Manny Tavares to attend . He can bring the latest
floor plans with him - with the new classroom layout as discussed at this
meeting .
Michael Pare should also attend .
* NEXT WEEK'S MEETING. NOV. 22nd WILL BE TECHNOLOGY DISCUSSION ONLY**
Merry Sue said Sandwich has a town wide technology committee and she will
try to get a draft of their recommendations.
Paul will get Childs ' draft report to Committee members .
Mike Pietrowski asked about the sound system. He has been trying to get
information about it. Bob said they will be defining the sound system in
the next few weeks . Paul said the Committee can discuss their expectations
for the sound system next week but there is not enough definitive
information yet for that meeting.
Joe asked the Committee members about moving the meeting to Monday?
Monday is difficult for Janice and Merry Sue.
Joe Polito left the meeting.
COST REDUCTIONS/VALUE ADDED RECOMMENDATIONS
Goal : to identify cost reduction items to get estimate down to $20 . 8
million .
At the close of last meeting , prior to tonight's discussion it was
$21 , 183 , 000 . It is about $400 , 000 off of the goal .
Page 5 of SMMA' s handout identifies some additional cost reductions
suggestions:
1 . Reduce roof height of the gyms: there will be no impact to activities of
the gym. Nantucket High School is 29 feet. It will be adequate for all
sports events.
The Committee agreed .
2 . These items were requested from Canteen (food service) . Paul suggested
tabling the discussion because it may effect the central kitchen
possibility . Tom Wren will speak to Steve Bruzanski at Canteen .
3 . Change fire extinguisher cabinet to painted from stainless steel . Not
worth the $600 . 000 savings because it will become a maintenance problem.
4. Provide scissor lift at loading dock in lieu of recessed drive and
retaining walls . SMMA shows a $1 , 200 add . Paul said there is no way it
can be an add . Something is wrong . SMMA will provide Paul with their
documentation .
5 . Bob said they need to do more work on this issue. They are getting
6
