conflicting information from contractors. Paul suggested they call Fire
Protection in Framingham.
6 . Eliminate 6 drinking fountains. Bob said they will find 6 fountains
from the number provided that can be eliminated . Paul agreed that fewer is
better. The Committee agreed .
7 . Delete GWB ceiling in student dining and provide painted exposed
structure.
Paul asked if this will be a sound issue?
Bob said it will pick up the ceiling height by 4 feet, will help the sound .
Paul asked if this will displace any mechanical systems?
Mark suggested they take 50% of the savings. He will send two sketches ,
one with all exposed structure and one alternative with less exposed .
Committee agreed to take $10, 000.
8. Committee did not agree to take this on .
9 . Delete 2 toilet rooms at receiving work room -- there are still 2 toilets
very accessible to this area.
Committee agreed .
Bob said he also took out both of the toilets from the alternative
education room. Committee agreed .
10. Use VCT instead of ceramic the in dining areas . Committee agreed.
11 . Various HVAC changes including:
reducing boilers from 4 to 2 , eliminating 2 pumps, eliminate electric unit
heaters, reduce size of chillers, piping change. Bob said they reviewed
the piping and the original estimated quantity was wrong. SMMA' s
estimate, after the recommended change, came up with almost the exact
number that was in the original estimate . That estimate had carried only
one-half of the piping .
Paul said they also agreed to use 2 1 /2" piping instead of 4" .
Bob said they see no savings from that.
Paul said any estimating book will say there is a premium for 4" pipe
because of additional labor costs.
Paul said originally , receptacles were to use tubing so they could be
changed but that will probably never happen , so he suggests using armour
cable. The cost is 1/3 less.
With these changes they are $174,000 away from the goal .
SMMA will continue to look at ways to reduce the cost.
Bill mentioned there is still no provisions for outdoor storage for
maintenance vehicles , etc .
Bob said both storage areas are in the estimate.
Paul said the School Committee should discuss out placement of these
services . Even if the cost is equal , it eliminates the potential for
vandalism. He does not think the Town of Mashpee can do it any cheaper
than a contractor. This Committee should recommend to the School Committee
they seriously investigate that.
Janice said the School Committee has been considering that.
She said the School Committee would like to be on this Committee ' s agenda
in the near future.
7
