on the big bricks.
Janice would like to see the wood which is going with it before deciding on
the size and color of brick .
Joe wants the smaller brick, not matter what the price.
Bill also likes the standard sized brick.
Steve like the larger brick .
Janice likes the larger brick, it will be more economical and will look
smaller on such a large building.
Paul likes the bigger brick, he has seen it used. Bigger brick brings down
the size of the building.
Merry Sue likes the bigger brick, as long as it is only one color.
Ray said it is a scale issue. The design staff recommends the larger brick.
** Janice made a motion the 4 x 12 size brick be used on the high
school . Steve seconded the motion. 5 members in favor 2 against.
Ray presented a board of various materials choices for floors, walls and
ceilings to give the Committee and idea of what materials they are thinking
about.
Floor: terrazzo tile -more economical to install then poured terrazzo.
It is slippery when wet but there is a finish treatment to reduce that.
It will be installed primarily in the main entryway and cafeteria.
Corridors - vinyl tile, pure vinyl cost more.
Paul has read a lot of information that is saying vinyl is not meeting the
slip factors.
Ray thinks rubber floors don't last and they discolor and rot.
Bill thought rubber was quieter at the schools they visited .
Ray said there is a good linoleum product but he does not have a sample
now. It wears well and never needs to be waxed, just buffed.
Steve asked that the architects look at rubber.
Paul said DRA was having a lot of problems with some rubber flooring
lifting.
Paul suggested Ray ask a rubber floor representative where they did a big
rubber floor job, in the last 5 years, that the Committee can look at.
Bill suggested rubber on the stairs, it is quieter.
Ray said vinyl is quiet also, there are other ways to treat sound .
Ray said they have to make material type choices so they can draw the slab
recesses to accommodate the thickness of material .
The Committee agreed the terrazzo the is OK and will be either vinyl tile
or rubber floors in corridors, which is the same thickness.
Is it worth spending the money on terrazzo the in the cafeteria. It is
two times more expensive than vinyl .
Dr. DeMoura said they need a place to collect sand , it is a big problem.
Paul said there will be tread mats in the entry areas, recessed , for sand.
Ray said they have been thinking about 2 things for the color scheme -
environment and native american heritage. He needs to do more research on
the native american colors. Joan had told Peter the colors are brown, red
and yellow. Janice said they are not like western indian colors, they are
duller here.
Ray suggested the walls be off white with one wall of accent color in each
5
