then the Committee is responsible. This may be the downfall of the deal
for them. Let SMMA figure it out.
Ray is concerned about the implied direction this is taking, if they don 't
make a consultant change , and for some reason the variance is not obtained ,
there is potential for some real problems.
** Paul modified his original motion . The new motion is: the
Committee notify SMMA of it's displeasure with DeFao Wait and Pare
and SMMA should either seek other consulting services or somehow
come to some reasonable agreement with the present firm to satisfy
the Committee. 6 in favor, l opposed .
Data collection- Tom Wren explained Peter asked Chartwell to do the data
collection from the other High School 's flow to give to DEP. They received
data from Sandwich high school . Plymouth South does not have the
information in summary form. They would give access to someone from the
Town to review their daily data and compile it but they cannot do that for
Mashpee. The man he spoke with at Plymouth said DEP has a databank of
,"information from all schools and suggested that be the best place to do the
search. Tom thinks it will take an engineer to wade through the
information .
He has not been able to get the information from Wareham.
Steve said once they get the fact and figures, the Committee could put
together the information , it is nota complex process.
* Merry Sue made a motion the Committee request Steve Greelish and
Elias McQuaid collect information from 3 high schools and begin to
prepare the DEP variance. Paul seconded the motion . All members
were in favor 7-0. **
DISCUSSION WITH ARCHITECTS
Ray would like to talk about materials and color, although it is not
critical to make decisions on color now. They would like to know the
interior/exterior color scheme the Committee is leaning towards.
He brought more brick samples
4 x 12 and 4 x 8. 4 x 12 is more economical because less labor is
involved. Ray recommends the 4 x 12 , proportionally it works better.
Bill asked if brick will absorb moisture and crack, is there a way to treat
it?
Ray said they recommend using the smooth faced brick. It is more expensive
but because of the way it is made has less moisture. It is not recommended
they be treated. He thinks smooth face looks better.
Joe said we need a brick with least amount of water penetration.
Merry Sue would like to see a building which uses smooth face - it doesn' t
look right to her.
Ray suggests using only red brick, with a different color for banding , but
not a mix of different colored bricks.
The mortar color is also important to the way the bricks will look. He
will prepare a panel of mortar colors.
Joe likes the standard sized bricks , historically that is what was used .
Steve is not sure he likes the smooth finish, it will be even more obvious
4
