is not comfortable with the alternative systems .
Steve said the bottom line is so far they have not been able to produce
hard data from other installations (on the alternative system) that is
acceptable to the State . He does not think it is a dead issue yet.
Paul said we have to wait until Woodard and Curren have completed their
study and given the Committee their recommendation .
kcxc
Paul explained SMMA met with the Cape Cod Commission last week. Greg
Taylor attended . SMMA said CCC seemed reasonable and they understood all
the points they wanted in the EIR. On the issue of 5 parts of nitrate , the
Commission said if that is the best we could do that would be OK. However ,
they want an agreement from the Town saying they will work to try to lower
the nitrate contribution from all other projects . SMMA does no see any
obstacles . Hopefully, the EIR will be submitted next week . The agreed to
a joint review.
TECHNOLOGY INTERVIEWS
Corporate Connectivity Resources Inc. - Michael Kirwan
Mr. Kirwan explained to the Committee CCR is an engineering firm that
applies the straight forward , deductive rules of engineering to the
technology and communication areas .
They will engage in the process and end up with a solution that is correct
for Mashpee , so it meets the needs here.
All of the fast paced changes that have occured have left the
responsibility of what to do with technology and then how to do it in a way
that lets one manage it.
They apply the same rules of engineering to the somewhat different needs of
schools. More attention has to go into the building blocks so as you live
out the course of the bond , you can grow and experience the changes in
technology that will come. There is a need to economize, and project as
long a lifecycle as you can .
Recent projects they have done: the Chelsea projects . They worked to
develop technology standards for the whole Chelsea project, then worked
with SMMA to implement those standards in the high school project and with
HMFH for the middle and elementary schools.
City of Cambridge - to establish a technology standard for the city of
Cambridge; completed work on 2 schools and are doing 2 more now.
Quabbin School District - Senior/Junior High renovation and new
construction .
CCR is familiar with projects of this size and the practice and process of
architecture .
They can take the technology plan and pull it down into curriculums and
behaviors . How does it effect how your spaces will look? They will take
that and bring it down to the construction documents .
The best buy you will get is through a fully coordinated effort that is
tied to the construction contract.
Elements that make up the technology environment:
The lines between voice , data, video and sound are getting "blurry" -
convergence.
It is important to make 1 fundamental decision : infrastructure is different
from application . You will not hear that from computer companies , vendors
2
