Steve th i n s ' i t will be very cost effective <br /> Peter asked if they talked about a public address system for the cafeteria <br /> and gym? <br /> Steve said not particularly. They are charged with the acoustics of the <br /> cafeteria and gym, That issue will be rev i s i ted p There are simple <br /> solutions to both areas . <br /> Phil said those two areas will be a PA system, not a sophisticated sound <br /> system. <br /> Paul said there are 2 categories involved : delivering sound and sound <br /> control . The committee wants the consultant to review the plans and be <br /> able to say the sound is under control . The committee will not give in <br /> on that. when the Committee made site visits sound was a major issue in <br /> most schools . The Committee should know if there i s a potential problem <br /> and can then make decisions to deal with i t. <br /> Janice said this is intrinsically involved with the technical consultant <br /> and they have to work together. <br /> DESIGN ISSUES <br /> Red Block . Steve said there is a building on Rte 24 in Avon Park that is <br /> using 4 kinds of block . <br /> MMA brought some samples of block for the Committee ' s review. <br /> They prepared a sketch of the west elevation , with block. <br /> The first or 4 feet will use a rusticated Base - rock face. round Face <br /> bloc w 1 1 be above that and accent above and below the windows . <br /> It is best to choose accent block colors when the final supplier is chosen <br /> and use test panels . <br /> They also brought a board of photographs of other buildings done in block. <br /> Ed said they feel good about the direction it is going . They are trying to <br /> provide " life" to the building . They will develop a building that is <br /> interesting at all scales , <br /> It has not been decided if the accent will be rough or smooth . <br /> Peter asked if they can reduce the amount of white aggregate in the block? <br /> Ed said they can try . It depends on who manufactures it. You will pay a <br /> premium for custom aggregate. <br /> sMMA also provided a 1 i st of buildings to visit built of block . <br /> sMMA provided samples of materials to use in place of good <br /> - Pre-f i n i shed composi t i on board . It has a 20-30 year finish and does not <br /> recd u i re painting . It was used at Ocean Spray headquarters# It is slightly <br /> less expensive than cedar siding . It is said to be impervious to water. <br /> - Cement fiber board panels . Comes in smooth or rough finish . It is <br /> intended to be pained and would have to be re-coated like paint, <br /> 7 <br />
