Town (#Vashpee <br /> J: iPstc)rrccel <br /> " 16 Great Neck Road North <br /> Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649 <br /> 3?A11.E Et7^ <br /> Telephone - (508) 539-1438 <br /> May 30, 2018 <br /> MASHPEE HISTORICAL COMMISSION <br /> Minutes of Meeting— May 24, 2018 <br /> The Mashpee Historical Commission meeting was called to order by Ava Costello, Chair, at <br /> 4:37 pm. <br /> Commissioners Present: Ava Costello, Richard DeSorgher, Rosemary Burns Love, and Nancy <br /> Soderberg. Brian Hyde called in to attend the meeting, but did not vote on any motions. <br /> Commissioners not Present: Gordon Peters, and Joan Tavares-Avant <br /> Approval of Minutes from March 2, 2018, meeting was delayed until next meeting. <br /> Reports: <br /> Ava Costello informed the Commission that winter meetings had been held with Rita Lopez <br /> regarding the names of the Wampanoag soldiers in the Revolutionary War. She informed us <br /> that Steven Curley had resigned from his position in the History Department and is no longer <br /> working for the Wampanoag Tribe. <br /> Ava and Richard attended a meeting in May 2018 with both Wayne Taylor and Catherine <br /> Laurent regarding the scope of work to be done at the Memorial Park, which will have to be put <br /> out to bid. <br /> Ava is still working with Earl Mills of the Historic District Commission on the Mashpee Signage <br /> Project and is considering hiring an Editor to assign "one voice" to all signs. She will work with <br /> the sign designer to put a timeline on all the signs. Also, they will need to include recognition <br /> that CPC funds were used for this project. <br /> Richard and Ava attended a meeting with the Community Gardens group which intends to set <br /> up a Town Board to work on the master plan for the area along Route 130 from the Community <br /> Veterans Memorial Garden down to the Community Garden area. <br /> Ava met with,Wayne Taylor to review the Mashpee Historical Commission's revised Roles and <br /> Responsibilities. She also inquired if we might have a member of the Wampanoag Tribe attend <br /> our meetings, and it was agreed upon, but they would have a non-voting position. <br /> According to the Town By-Laws, any member of a Commission who has not attended three <br /> meetings in a row without an excuse, can be removed from the Commission. Therefore, we <br /> voted to approved Ava Costello be reappointed to another 3-year term, and Gordon Peters to <br />
