-2-
be retired from the Commission for nonattendance over the past few years. However, we want
to recognize Gordon's many contributions over the years with his knowledge of Mashpee's
history. Gordon served on the Mashpee Historical Commission in the years 1996-1998, 2000-
2001, and 2006-2018.
Richard reviewed the research he has done on lists of names of soldiers and sailors of the
Revolutionary War. He and Ava have met with Rita Lopez and Earl Mills of the Mashpee
Wampanoag Tribe to try to verify names of the Wampanoags who fought and died in that war.
He has secured funding in the amount of$32,500 from CPC funds and matching funds from the
State of Massachusetts in the amount of$15,000 for Phase I of the project.
The DPW has been working on the exterior of the Mashpee One Room Schoolhouse. The
window panes/trim, shutters, bulkhead doors, step railing, have all been painted. The back door
has been replaced with a new door. Frank intended to be at the Schoolhouse on Memorial Day,
with his wife Betsy, to have visitors have a quick tour and sign up people and groups who would
like to request a tour on another day. Frank is conducting the 3rd Grade Quashnet School tours.
Brian attended a meeting of the Mashpee District Commission and apprised us that they had to
notify the Dance Studio, located along Route 130 in the Historic District, that their signs had to
be much smaller to meet with Town regulations.
Ava attended the May Town Meeting where the Mashpee Historical Commission's request for
additional funding in the amount of$7,030.00 for expenses in FY2019 was approved.
Richard suggested and Rosemary made a motion that we purchase Patriotic flags and bunting
to decorate the Archives for certain holidays. The motion was seconded by Nancy Soderberg.
Ava suggested that the Commission set up an annual Historic Preservation Award. Richard
made a motion that we set up the Award, and the motion was seconded by Rosemary. A few
names were suggested, but the work will continue and the person to be chosen will be
determined at a later time.
The date of our next meeting was not set.
Ava made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:15pm, and it was seconded by Richard.
_g A.1/ F 7 ;mil.!
Submitted by: Ann Graham, Sr. Clerk
