MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10 , 1995
HIGH SCHOOL SITE
Members Present : Paul Griffin, Bill Martiros , Merry Sue Ahlgren,
Janice Mills , Peter Dinizio
Also Present: Tom Wren, Joel Seeley, Jim Byrne , John Williams ,
Dr. Lincoln DeMoura
Meeting convened at 4 : 12 p.m.
Inspection of Site : including review of internal block work.
Paul said the mock up of the internal block work looked
satisfactory to him. All the corners will be rounded .
Everyone agreed the mock up was satisfactory.
Construction Progress .
Paul explained that things have gone from bad to worse . There
are 3 sections of steel in the ground. Derrick 2 has been halted
( is partially up) because of a problem with the way the columns
are sitting on the plates ,
Joel explained that he , Bob Barthelmes and R. Croswell will have
a conference call tomorrow to review Stone ' s recommendation for
each "fix" .
Paul asked if the work can be done in the field? Joel said they
will make that determination tomorrow. Cutting the plates is the
worst case scenario . Some of the deviations are not that great.
Paul said he spoke with David Patrick regarding the schedule, the
revised vs . original schedule . The difference between the two is
Stone has squeezed the finish work into a time period that Paul
believes is too short ( in the revised schedule ) . If left as it
is, the job will not be done in time . He told Mr. Patrick they
have to do a better job with the scheduling .
Mr. Patrick agreed but they have to get the steel up before they
can talk about the rest of the schedule .
Stone believes the steel work can be complete by Nov. 20th. Paul
is not convinced until he sees all of the details.
Atwell will double the man crew ( from 6 to 12 ) . After derrick 2
is resolved the additional crew can begin to finish a derrick.
There are a few problems with derrick 1 which the contractor will
fix. Until derrick 1 has been surveyed and approved by the
engineer, they can't pour a second deck. They are shooting for
Oct . 13th,
They hope to get derrick 4 poured by mid week of next week.
Block was scheduled to start 3 weeks from last Wednesday and
Stone is working to improve the ordering of it so they can begin
earlier.
Dr. DeMoura asked how far behind are they?
Paul said it depends on which benchmark you use . By the old
1
