schedule and by Stone ' s financials , they are 4 weeks behind.
Paul said early in the job it is a concern but you have to wait
until the steel is up to say where they will be .
Paul said today, for the first time, on the agenda is a
discussion of contingency plan. He thinks the Committee should
discuss this with Dr. DeMoura and Mr. Williams once each month.
Paul believes , if the building is running behind schedule and not
ready to open Sept . 1, at least a portion - 1 wing can be ready
for use .
Dr. DeMoura asked if the contractor will allow occupancy of a
portion of the building?
Paul does not think it will be a problem.
Dr. Demoura asked about providing a due date for equipment
delivery when it goes out to bid.
Paul said he will discuss steps that can be taken in regard to
that .
Bill said the Committee was advised early on that it was not a
good idea to have construction going on while students are in the
building .
Paul said he has been thinking of things that can make it work.
The work will be mostly finish work. There will be no site work
going on. The exterior will be a finished building.
The students can enter and exit from the bus drop off end of the
building.
They can punchlist that area of the building before occupancy.
They can open without a cafeteria. Gym class can be outside. The
completion of the building will be off by 1-2 months , not a long
time.
He suggested they can modify the furniture and equipment RFP so
there is a line item for storage in case of delay. This cost
will be part of their bid and the Committee can exercise that
right if necessary.
Paul asked Mr. Williams to prepare for the Committee the minimum
requirements he can get by with for the 7 ,8 and 9th grades for 30
and 60 days .
Paul will talk with Bill Hauck about the possibility of opening a
portion of the building.
Another key issue is getting the building closed in for the
winter - getting a permanent structure up.
Paul explained that a delay of one week for the steel is not
equal to a delay 1 week later. Now the delay is preventing 104
men from working , it is a major delay.
The commitment from Stone to double the crew is an important one
and Paul would not accept anything less than that.
2
