Peter explained the Selectmen are holding a special meeting
tomorrow to vote on the change order. He has talked to them
about giving Paul the authority to approve change orders up to
$20 , 000 . He would like to know from the Committee if that is
what they want to do and if that amount if sufficient.
Paul said this most recent change order was work that had to be
done immediately.
Tom Wren was told that because of town meeting , the Selectmen
would not be able to vote on it at their last meeting .
Peter made a motion to ask the Selectmen to give Paul
Griffin the authority to approve change orders not to
exceed $20 , 000 . Janice seconded the motion. All members
were in favor 5-0. **
Change Orders.
Paul reviewed the submission from Stone on the request for
proposals the Committee gave them. He thought, in general , the
prices were very high. The proposals have to be reviewed by
SMMA.
Joel said SMMA is in the process of reviewing them. He did notice
there were credits not listed that are due in the plumbing
section. Electrical prices did seem very high.
It could be a problem in putting some of the areas out to bid.
The field work is one area that could go out to bid but SMMA
would have to prepare all the documents for that.
These figures have to be compared to the cost estimators figures,
get SMMA's response and then decide if there is margin enough to
put it out to bid.
Joel said it may take a few iterations before a final proposal is
reached. Some proposals did not even provide enough information/
detail for SMMA to respond .
The Committee will have to decide if the value is worth it to the
project to add these items.
There is a total of $1 . 7 million that has not been committed.
Peter asked the Committee if there needs to be more coordination
with the Selectmen' s office?
Paul said that as soon as a change order gets to them, it needs
to go on the very next Selectmen' s meeting agenda.
Peter said there is already a regular agenda item for each
Selectmen' s meeting for the High School .
MINUTES
* Merry Sue made a motion to approve the regular minutes
(not executive session) for: June 27 , July 11 , July 25 ,
Aug. 8 , Aug . 29 and Sept . 12 . Janice seconded the
motion. All members were in favor.
3
