be taken care of .
Joel discussed the fields . There are areas the contractor is obligated to
fix, areas that have eroded and areas with tire track marks . By Nov. 3rd
they have to provide topsoil , seed and hay like material to prevent runoff
to get the grass growing . The fields should have enough growth to get them
through the winter without further erosion.
Jim Byrne said the fields are far from being excepted. They may have to be
overseeded in the spring.
BUDGETARY POSITION STATEMENT
Tom Wren presented a draft and the Committees reviewed it .
The $135 , 000 in change orders are not yet reflected.
There is close to $2 million, total , to get through the project.
Outstanding change orders : Paul explained that Stone did not check the
change orders from their subcontractors and yet had the gaul to submit
them. He did some quick research and found that some are at least 45% over
cost and much is 99% over!
Paul expressed his dissatisfaction with this directly to David Patrick and
told him the Committee will not put up with this .
Joel said he has sent correspondence on all change estimates . He would
like to propose that SMMA provide a sketch to Stone on a design that could
make the additional fields economically more efficient . He feels it may be
worthwhile to pursue . The Committee agreed to let SMMA pursue it .
Jim said they may have to break some of the change orders out that relate
to the building.
Paul said he asked Joel to look at the water condensation issue, in the
school . He received a letter from Joel re: number of days and hours water
can condense on the floors . This issue is important relative to when mold
and bacteria can grow.
Paul also has been working with Dr. DeMoura on the air quality problems at
the middle school . Paul spoke with an air quality specialist about this
problem and his bottom line is don't rip up the carpet, it may help to keep
the bacteria down. Carpet is not a problem. One solution is to air
condition the building - it is not an easy problem to solve.
Joe said he still has concerns about carpeting because of the dust content .
It will not be cleaned the way it should be .
Peter said the issue is the cost to air condition the building .
Paul said the capital and operational cost of air conditioning will be a
problem. Is the School Department ready to accept the maintenance costs .
This could be a potential issue the Committee must address in this new
building .
The Committee then went into Executive Session.
THE NEXT SCHEDULED MEETING IS NOVEMBER 14 , 1995 4:00 P.M. AT THE SITE.
Minutes submitted by Arden R. Cadrin
5
