MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14 , 1995 HIGH SCHOOL SITE Members Present : Janice Mills , Merry Sue Ahlgren, Paul Griffin, Steve Greelish, Peter Dinizio , Bill Martiros, Joe Polito , Also Present : Mike Pietrowski , Bill Hauck, John Williams , Dr. Lincoln DeMoura Meeting convened at 4 : 43 p.m. Approval of Minutes of 10/10 and 10/30 will wait until the next meeting . The meeting scheduled for November 28th may be a problem, because of the Thanksgiving holiday, in getting the requisition approved. The Committee agreed to change the next meeting date to Tuesday, December 5th. The following meeting will be Wednesday, December 27th. CONTINGENCY PLAN Dr. DeMoura explained the present plan is to try to squeeze everyone into the Middle School and some additional classrooms at the Coombs school . They will use the library, at the middle school , some rooms off of the library including the AV room, the Home Ec room. Some teachers will be "floating" which could present difficulties because not all furniture in the available spaces will be the proper size. For 30-60 days it can happen. Paul asked if that option is better than using the High School building? Dr. DeMoura said no , this facility is the best option, to use a portion of this building , if it is possible . The main criteria is little or no expense . Merry Sue said some School Committee members are concerned about using this space during construction. Janice said it is not the concern of the majority of the Committee . Dr. DeMoura said the first choice is partial occupancy of the high school building. Peter asked what the concern is of using the high school - the people (workers) present or the site danger? Merry sue thinks it is the danger of construction workers on site. Paul suggested the Committee not pick apart any option now, we do not yet know if there will be a delay. Bill Hauck said the Committee and contractor should aim to complete a section, don' t leave it to May/June to decide they want to use that option because it will be too late . The Committee should have an idea of what they want and head in that direction. Alan Scott from Stone said their direction is they will finish the building on time . Paul has assurances from Stone that one academic wing will be finished if the entire school is not ready. Bill said the School Department needs lead time, there is a lot of testing to be done - water testing , system balancing, etc. Joe said he cannot see any reason why this building cannot be operational on time. 1
