TECHNOLOGY PRESENTATION
Mike Kirwin and Bill Leving from CCR were present. Mike Kirwin explained
this presentation was derived from the technology sub committee meetings
and is what CCR is recommending for the phone and data systems. The video
system still has some open questions.
Bill Leving presented the voice systems .
Presently the Town has a Centrex contract, with 10 years remaining , for
$2 , 491 per month. DID and Centrex are fundamentally equal , with DID you
own your switches and controls, they are housed in the school .
They are recommending a combination of both systems. Because of the
existing Centrex contract, they have to stay with it . It will work as an
intercom system between town facilities .
The calls at the High School will be answered by an auto attendant . Each
teacher will have a number, that goes directly to a mailbox.
John Williams added, they can shut the auto attendant off any time they
decide to .
Bill Martiros feels you have more control with an operator. He suggested
calls for the whole town go through an operator first.
Mr. Leving said you have total control with this system. There is a level
of restriction and capabilities on each line.
Paul has spoken with Bob Whritenour and Jim Vacarro to coordinate this with
the Town Hall Renovation Committee . Town Hall does not plan to have an
operator.
Merry Sue asked if the classroom phones can be programmed to, for example,
only dial within the school system?
They can be programmed for different capabilities at specified times .
Merry Sue asked if the phone numbers can coordinate with the room numbers?
CCR said they can try, but it generally doesn't work out.
Bill said the City of Boston is getting rid of their auto attendant . What
is the advantage over an operator?
CCR said accessibility, control , ease of handling and cost of an operator.
Steve said if the high school wants to use a manual system they have that
capability.
John Williams said most of the time they can shut the auto attendant off.
There are times when he is working, without a secretary, and he is
interrupted to answer the phone . Dr. DeMoura is very specific about not
hiring someone.
Mr. Leving said the system is entirely flexible , it can be changed hour to
hour.
Merry Sue asked how many people can call out at one time?
CCR has not done a traffic study yet. There will be about 40 lines.
Paul said he still has questions about the DID system, to what extent can
we "pack" DID vs . Centrex?
Mr. Leving said with DID you buy a finite number of trunks . It is nothing
more than access lines with fancier engineering.
Paul thinks there is a different ratio for Centrex vs. DID, there is a
lower number on the Centrex vs. DID. He wants CCR to explore it . He is
