MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE
TUESDAY, AUGUST 8 , 1995
TOWN HALL
Members Present : Merry Sue Ahlgren, Bill Martiros , Janice Mills ,
Steve Greelish, Paul Griffin, Joe Polito
Also Present : Jim Byrne , Tom Wren, Joel Seeley, Bill Barthelmes
Meeting convened at 4 : 08 p .m.
Chartwell Contract : Paul explained that Chartwell has agreed to
do the prevailing wage work with no increase in their fee . The
only remaining issue is overtime for the Clerk of the Works . Ian
wants to settle it at a future date . Paul said it has to be done
now.
CONSTRUCTION STATUS
Paul met with Jim Byrne and Herb, job Superintendent on Saturday .
Things seem to be back on track. According to the schedule , they
are behind on exterior walls but they have installed a lot of the
footings .
Mr. Barthelmes said they placed the last of the walls today for
section A, B & E except for the pieces that need to remain open.
The critical path date for structural steel is August 31 ( early
start date ) .
The foundations will be completed by then.
Paul asked Jim his opinion of the status of the building and
grounds .
Jim said, as of today, sec A, B, & E is 99% done as Mr . Barthelmes
said. If a lot of things go right , Aug 31st is doable . It will
take aggressive action. He .has been told they will be working 10
hours a day and Saturdays . Based on that , it is a little more
doable by the 31st .
There is also a process of paperwork that has to catch up .
Tom said Chartwell will be looking very carefully at this and
will come back at the end of the month as to where they stand .
Joe asked what will prevent them from being done on the 31st?
Tom does not see anything to prevent it , except shop drawings not
being presented sufficiently in advance .
Paul said Herb has circled items on the schedule they are ahead
on, to show where they will be picking up time .
Joe asked what will prevent the steel from being here?
Paul said only a production problem. There is a 2 week window
for the start date .
Mr . Barthelmes said he will be going to Springfield to the steel
fabrication shop to see how things are going .
Jim said to remember it is a sequence , Segment l is ready for
1
