Y
r
Steve also would like to know how much time we have left .
Dan said there are 5 weeks left before no seeding should occur this fall .
After the first week of November there should be no seeding and even then
you will not see results until next spring . It would be dormant seeding for
germination next spring ,
To repair the fields : repair erosion, remove construction debris , replace
loam in areas to bring the grade up to ,its intended level f or proper
drainage , till the area to provide Looser soil conditions , aerate the
fields to loosen the soil to create new seed beds , apply lime to adjust the
ph, provide starter fertilizer, slide seed ( insert seed into a short
furrow) .
Dan explained he recommended dormant seeding last fall and that was ignored
by Stone . On June 6th he issued a lengthy list of directives to follow
immediately which were ignored.
Where i s the erosion?
Dan said it is spotty, throughout . There are hollows and depressions
created by vehicle and foot traffic
Next spring the fields should he top dressed , add a thin layer of soil over
the growing grass areas to further bring them up to grade *
Joe said it doesn' t look like there is much grass out there , mostly weeds .
]fan said there was a plantation of sweet fern which was removed.. There is
not a lot of crabgrass or broadleafed weeds but there was wash out of grass
seed in areas so there is spotty growth. The conditions were not created
for bluegrass to grow. Bluegrass spreads like strawberries and starts new
plants . There is almost no bluegrass growing out there .
Dan said stone has been give l year and they haven' t repaired the fields .
He does not think they are willing or able . He has no reason to feel
confident they will act any differently in the future than they have in the
past.
Paul said the Committee will need something in writing from Dan to bring to
torn counsel , through Joel . Paul will be asking town counsel to deal with
this 'issue ; he does not know if we can terminate one section of the
contract .
Dan reviewed the AIA contract, s section reads "to suspend or dela.y work in
whole or in part"
Noel said they will write a cumulative letter of the directions given to
Stone since last fall and will request clarification on how to proceed.
Dan suggested suspending work immediately because the fields are at a. clean
break;
Paul will ask town counsel to review all the necessary items in the
contract .
He asked if the subcontractor has had other jobs in the area, with similar
problems'
Dan said they worked on the Falmouth Hospital addition and the landscape
architect is very dissatisfied with their work.
2
