** Merry Sue made a motion to authorize SMMA to accept these two
proposals from Occithealth. Janice seconded the motion. All
members were in favor 5-0**
Correspondence from Weston and Sampson: the auto dialler is not
functioning at the STP . Jim spoke with them today. They said Stone is being
unresponsive . Weston and Sampson will not be responsible if there is a
spill .
Steve said if we don ' t get an immediate response from Stone , we need to get
someone to fix it.
Peter suggested Weston and Sampson give us a list of possible vendors to
fix it .
- The Committee reviewed the list for the wall plaque and made changes .
Superintendent ' s space : Torn said there has been very little action on
this work.
Janice said it is apparent we need to give this to legal counsel to get
action.
- Tom said the Town Accountant has stressed that equipment that is for
external use , outside of the building , she thinks it will not be
reimbursable , i . e . snow plows etc .
Dr . Demoura said that is possible . If equipment is left on the property it
should be reimbursable .
SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS FOR INTERSECTION
Dr. DeMoura explained that he has been speaking with the Police Dept . on
this issue . A patrol car has been monitoring the speed and the average
speed is 46 miles per hours .
Although there will be a traffic light in the future , there should also be
a flashing light and sign that says school zone . A school zone posting
automatically .reduces the speed limit to 20 miles per hour .
Peter said Route 151 is not the purview of this Committee . The work is
being done by DPW.
Joel said a traffic analysis had to be done of the intersection, based on
it MA Highway directed VHB/Town to do only the work warranted under those
standards .
Dr. DeMoura said there are presently 11 kids who walk across that
intersection. There is a crossing guard but people don ' t slow down. The
best way to get traffic to slow is a flashing light . He understands the
issue is one of funding. He suggested we explore solar panel lights .
Bill said the police department should have a car there for when the
students come and go .
Dr. DeMoura explained that they consider it an extra detail and the school
dept cannot afford it .
Steve said Greg Taylor has to be involved .
7r. DeMoura said he is involved, both he and the police chief have spoken
.to him.
5
