MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
TUESDAY, APRIL 9 , 1996
HIGH SCHOOL SITE
Present : Merry Sue Ahlgren, Joe Polito , Paul Griffin, Janice
Mills
Also Present : Dr . DeMoura, John Williams , Ian Aitchison, Jim
Byrne , Joel. Seeley, Mike Kirwin
Meeting convened at 4 : 10 .
OLD BUSINESS
John Williams said the classroom with the cooking stations looks
like it only has 3 cooking stations , it needs 5 . Can they get 5
in there?
Joel will look into it . They would have to re-design that area.
If the Committee wants to add 2 stations , that decision must be
made quickly.
Merry Sue said 3 stations are not enough for 20 kids .
Paul asked Joel to tell. Stone to hold on that area and try to
move quickly to get the re-design resolved.
Paul introduced Mr. Gunn, who is employed by the bonding company
and will be working at the site . Paul met with the Selectmen
last night and town counsel to settle the remaining issues with
Stone . Stone will supply new man power to the job. Paul said he
will make himself available to go through the building and
evaluate the on going problems with construction.
Stone has an employee , who worked for Dimeo , who will be coming
out of retirement to act as a consultant to this project. Paul is
not yet sure how often he will be on the site .
There will be an increase in manpower and extended hours of work.
The issue of funds for temporary student housing , should the
building not be ready in September, has not yet been settled.
Paul needs a plan and the costs of temporary housing from Dr.
DeMoura. Also a window of dates - delivery date and set up time.
Dr. DeMoura said they plan to lease 6 portable classrooms . They
were hoping to have the RFP out by April 19 and received back by
May 17 . They will have a special. School Committee meeting to
award it. The initial estimate for the rental for 3 months ,
installation and removal is $80 , 000 . They need to be in place by
the first week of August .
Paul said there will be weekly meetings at 7 : 00 a.m. on Fridays ,
with David Patrick, Mr. Gunn, SMMA representative and Paul to
evaluate that previous 7 day period. The intent is to solve any
and all problems that arise during that time so the job can move
on.
Paul suggested Dr . DeMoura proceed with the RFP' s .
