i MASBBEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE TUE s BAY, MARCH 26 , 1996 HIGH SCHOOL SITE Present , Paul Griffin, .noel Polito , Merry sue Ahlgren, Janice Mills , Bill Martiros , Steve Greelish, Peter Dinizio Also Present : Tom wren, Jim Byrne , Ian Aitchison, Manny Tavares , .noel Seeley, Ed Frenette , John Williams The Committee reviewed samples of library furniture from Monitor Equipment and Brodart . Samples were set up in 2 classrooms . Monitor Equipment. The Furniture is all solid wood, all custom work designed and built to Manny Tavares specs . The specs call for maple. a.uset Regional Middle school, is an example of library done in maple . They are the only Massachusetts company bidding the job. All furniture has a, complete 5 year guarantee . Brodart ss the largest manufacturer of library furniture . It is all solid wood; Their metal to metal connections are the strongest and shows no hardware . Hardware is not exposed on book carts . There i s a. 5 year guarantee . Because they are the best quality, they will never be the low bid The committee returned to the trailer to discuss the two choices . Manny Tavares gave the Committee the results of the b.ld.s : they budgeted $657 , 000 and the total hid care in at $623 , 000 -- which included the Brodart number. The two library product lines: Monitor: $57 , 790 Brodart : $70 , 515 . A o difference . Manny said both are good quality lines . The finish and design of Brodart is a bit more pleasing , the edges are more rounded. Paul asked if anyone will ever notice that difference , we want functional . Janice said if the lower cost line looked terrible that would be an issue , but it doesn't. $13 , 000 is a big difference - it could buy a. few more computers . Steve likes the look of the Monitor. John Williams said. they liked the construction of the Monitor but the steel plates caught their eye and thought the choice should be brought to the comPd lttee. Merry Sue said all the other choices were clearly not as nice as these two , Paul said structurally they are equal . He likes that Monitor is a MAO company, Paul asked if anyone disagreed with going with the Monitor's Everyone agreed to go with Monitor. Manny asked for committee approval of the entire package . John Williams said he wants to take the grand piano and 2 uprights out of this package because of discussions he ' s had with music teachers . The grand is too small for the auditorium. 1
