MAS EE HIGH SCHOOL BIDING COMMYTTEE
WEDNESDAY,OCTOBER 29, 1997
HIGH SCHOOL
Present: Peter Diniio, Bill lartiros,, Janice Mills, Merry Sue Ahlgren,Paul r"ffin, Joe Polito
Jim Byme,John Williams, Mike Kirwin, Ikon Cook,Mke Pietrowski
Meeting convened at 4:10 p,m.
TECHNOLOGY
Paul explained that overall technology is working well however the TVs are having some
difficulty. The cable installed by Griffin Electric is not the correct cable; it is not a true cross
reference. The problem is in the video transmission and remote control access.
Bi ll asked if it was designed properly.
Paul said the problem was hard to foresee. The vendor needed to know the exact signal from the
cable company, we could have over speced it and required they put amplifiers in but we didn't.
We do need them now. Once the video amplifiers are in the video portion of the TV system will
work with no problem.
The control portion remains a problem. It is clearly a Griffin Electric problem, Our only
recourse is to Stone. we will probably end up in litigation on this issue.
Through town counsel, we can try to get Stone to have Griffin Electric repair the work.
However, we will most likely pair to have this repaired,
Paul has brought in the correct type of cable and will test it today. They will run it from Mike
Pietrowski's room to one of the closets and see how the system operates; if the TVs at the end of
the run work all others should work.
Mike Pietrowski had concerns about this approach.
Paul said he will not vote to spend the money to rip it all out.
Mike said he feels strongly about this, it is an intermittent problem.
Mr. O'Connor from HB Communication said interference from lights could be a problem. we
should run the cable from Mke Pietrowski's room to each closet and do a visual check of each
classroom.
Merry Sue asked how much this will cost.
We don't know until we do this test. The cable cost$I.1 o per foot, plus labor.
Paul said this is the first phase. The second phase is to replace the hone run and check all the
classrooms.
It is not a design issue, It is an installation issue. Stone did not submit shop drawings for this
work. If they did and.the architect had approved the drawings, the owner owns it.
We have a ease to say Store owes us the right cable but the realign is there is little chance they
will do anything about it. we have reviewed the architects drawings and the specs. Griffin did
not look at the characteristics of the cable.
Mr. O'Connor said it will take under 4 hours for the connecting of the cable, testing and
disconnecting.
1
