F
C&t/c
IA HPEE HIGH SCHOOL BIDING COMMYTTEE MEETING TES
WEDNESDAY7 MARCH 311998
HIGH SCHOOL
Present: Janice Mills,, Steve Greelish, Bill lartiros, Paul Griffin,Merry Sue Ahlgren
Also Present: Jim Byrne, Ian Aitchison,Dr. Lincoln DeMoura, Mike Pietro ksi
MINUTES
Merry Sue made a motion to accept the minutes of January 8'. Janice seconded
the motion
Discussion: when discussing the outdoor lighting, it should read they measured form the ten year
line, not the 1 yard line.
** All members were in favor 5,0
BUDGET REVIEW
Jim explained the budget presented today reflects all bills being paid at today's meeting.
The bottom line is Maims against PA Landers - $72,995. eve will hold that much back from
then.
They still have work to do on the baseball fields.
Handicap violations: SMMA has prepared a bid package for the work which needs to be done
and mill put that out to bid, along with the masonry work around the windows which needs to be
done. They expect each to conic in under$25,000,
Janice asked if these violations occurred because of new rubs since the design of the building?
Jim explained some things we knew Stone had installed wrong, and we had hoped we would not
have to do the work but we do: missing curb cuts, slopes, add a sidewalk from the back parking
lot to the ballfields, cut the guard rails,
Paul said we did ask for exemptions on iterns and got it for some.
Jinn explained we will remove the sidewalk in front of the building because we would have to
move irrigation and lights so it is easier to must remove the sidewalk instead.
Paul explained the second package is to fix the cracked masonry around the windows. Only
some are cracked but we will fix them all because we don't want more to crack in the future
with no money to fix it.
Janice asked who is at fault in this ease. will we go after someone?
Paul believes SMN4A should have foreseen the issue, they disagree. Paul needs to get another
opinion. Stone says they have a written report from a structural engineering firm saying the
footings settled, causing the cracks. Neither Stone noir the engineering firm could produce the
report.
Paul said if the footings settled, there would be interior cracking also.
Janice is concerned about paying$25,000 to fix it.
Paul said he is pursuing it. There are some issue we took in the settlement with Stone, that are
all rolled into one lump some. He thinks the engineer should have foreseen it.
I
