x
Various scenarios were discussed to evaluate restructuring grades.
weighted average was used to select the final scenario. Mr. Babbitt
explained the fie goals used in evaluating the five different scenarios:
They are:
• Academic achievement
• Social and behavioral opportunities
• Use existing school buildings to utmost potential
• Minimize cost
• Minimize disruption
The scenario that was selected was to leave 7th and 8th grade at Mashpee
high school, with a dedicated 7th and 8th grade principal. A decision was
made to define and rework 7th&8th grade as a middle school within
school.
A. date was selected for Thursday, May l st at the Mashpee High School
auditorium at 4:30 p.m. to hold a public forum to discuss restructuring.
VI Field Trip to International Tennis lull of Fame
Mr. Bailey made a motion, seconded by Mrs. hills to approve the field
trip to the International Tennis Hall ofFame on 5/21/08.
VOTE: Unanimous
VIIl Department artment f Education Waiver
Ms. Bradshaw announced Haat the Department of Education has granted a
waiver for the high school not to make up one school day for the early
release day on 2114108. This is clue to having over 1000 instruction hours.
VIII. Budget Cuts
Mgrs, Grady stated Haat going forward copies of the budget would be
available at each finance meeting.
Ms. Grady reiterated that the Committee was disappointed the town had
not supported the proposed budget increase of 4.48%.
The planned budget for 2008-2009 is currently $20, 515.00. This is
$617,000 less than the School Committee believed it needed to operate
the schools without cutbacks. This budget does not include sufficient
funds for previously negotiated salary increases, or increases for
individuals not covered by union contracts, for increases in utilities and
transportation, critical student services, and upgrades for the septic
system.
This requires the School Committee to implement a series ofactions that
are difficult and unpopular.
School Committee Finance Meeting 4116108
