Parents are wondering if there is any way to
control this.
Old Business:
• Wendy Lithwin and Dan O'Neill approved October and November Meeting minutes
• Principal's Report for November reviewed and events(as highlighted on attached report)were
discussed
• The School Improvement Goal was reviewed. Goals for 2012-2013 school year will be the same
as 2011-2012 with an emphasis on goal 44(citizenship). Details are attached.
• Council discussed the Wellness Policy. Only healthy foods are allowed in school due to allergies
and to keep within the Wellness Policy guidelines. It is important to remember that there are other
ways to celebrate without food(i.e.extra recess, craft projects, new pencils, etc.). The change in
thinking must be embraced by all.
• The policy on parents/guardians eating lunch with their child will stand as not allowed.Young
children have a difficult time with transitions. They often want to go home with parents/guardians
after lunch. Also, other children may wonder why their parents/guardians are not having lunch with
them. Reminders to parents/guardians in the newsletter regarding this policy will be made. The
suggestion to come in to volunteer in their child's classroom can be offered as an alternative.
• Upcoming December events were discussed(please see attached Principal's Report).
• Art Teacher, Kim Palmer, and others are working very hard on a float for-the annual Mashpee
Christmas Parade.
• It was decided that last year's School Council Goals are do-able. Funds for playground may be
able to come from Bank of American and/or Eastern Bank. These banks need to invest money in
their communities by law.
• Julie Hail discussed"financial literacy". This topic is based on a workshop she attended. Program
teaches banking responsibilities(checking accounts, budgets, planning, car loans, etc.);six
modules of literacy;needs vs.wants. How do we infuse this into our community is a question.
• Mashpee will not have an extended day or school year at this time
