Title VII Indian Education Parent Committee of the Mashpee Public Schools Minutes of Parent Committee Meeting April 10, 2012 The meeting was convened at 6:13. In attendance were Allyson Pocknett, Kristine Foster, Celina Gonzalez, Liz Vicira, Suzette Spinola, and Morgan Peters. Also present was school staff Deb Goulart, School Committee representative Kathy Stanley, and Title VII program staff Shani Turner and Eleanor Jackson. The meeting was called to order by Allyson Pocknett, Chairperson. 1. Unanimous approval of Minutes for March 13, 2012. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Allyson Pocknett, and seconded by Celina Gonzalez. 2. Allyson Pocknett nominated Kendall Scott as a student representative. Ms. Scott is in 9th grade and her activities include participating in youth council and tutoring. Liz Vieira seconded the nomination and it was unanimously approved. Liz Vieira nominated Lishell Mathis who is also a freshman. She tutors, runs winter track and is a cheerleader. She also volunteers at the Noah Shelter and tutors. Lishell has a 3.9 GPA. Allyson Pocknett seconded the nomination and Lishell was unanimously approved. It was decided that since there were two students interested, the Committee would allow them both voting rights as part of the Committee. 3. Report from Title VII Coordinator—not present at this time 4. List of Meeting Dates reviewed and confirmed 5. Grant FY 13—Discussion regarding the areas that grant money is utilized, including dropout prevention, attendance, reading, and other. The students stated that study skills and organization are also necessary for many students. It was agreed that these interventions should begin at the KCCoombs School. 6. Summer Plans—Allyson Pocknett suggested getting together next week to discuss summer plans as it is already April. The meeting will take place Tuesday, April 17, location still unknown. 7. Report from Title VII Coordinator—Out of 142 students, 106 ED506 forms have been collected. This form will be added for new students and available at PreK/K registration if possible. Mashpee Archives would like Quashnet students to have a field trip to the one room school house.
