Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> April 25,2011 <br /> APPOINTMENTSA HEARINGS: <br /> Solid,waste Presentation: <br /> Selectman Michael Richardson presented an overview of the economic and <br /> environmental benefits of recycling to the Board of Selectmen, Town Manager <br /> and interested citizens for informational purposes as this matter will be before the <br /> voters at the May Election to d tenrnine the most favorable solid waste disposal <br /> option for the Town. <br /> The PowerPoint presentation was part of the educational and informational <br /> campaign of the Recycling Cmnutte to educate the voters with their decision to <br /> rein at Status Quo, opt for Curbside Collection or consider the Pay As You <br /> Throw Program. <br /> Catherine Laurent,Director of Public works and'Tom Mayo,the d'own's GIS <br /> Administration was in attendance for discussion poses. <br /> Presently, solid waste is brought to the Transfer Station and transported to the <br /> incinerator, and the Town uses the single strearn recycling program. Under the <br /> status quo, residents purchase a permit(estimated to cost$1'73 in FYI 3)for use of <br /> u meted trash disposal and recycling. <br /> In the curbside collection option, estimated to cost$210 'Y1 3, a contractor <br /> would collect trash and recycling at each single family hone. In this programs., <br /> two 33 gallon barrels of trash and unlimited recycling is allowed. <br /> Under the pay as you throve program,residents purchase an annual permit and pay <br /> for each bag of trash being disposed of. It is estimated the average cost would be <br /> $166 in FYI 3. This includes the permit fee and 1.2 - 30 gallon trash bags per <br /> week. recycling is unlimi <br />
