Mashpee Affirmative Action Committee <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> July 17,2018 at 10:00 am <br /> Mashpee Town Hall <br /> Present: Chairman J. Marie Stevenson, Gail Wilson, Lynne Waterman, JoAnn Nadeau, Katherine <br /> Brown, Winnie Johnson-Graham <br /> Also Present: Elana Doyle, Louis Horner,Kim Landry-Affirmative Action Officer, John Cotton- <br /> Selectman <br /> Absent: Xavier Gonsalves (Non-Voting Member) <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> The meeting was called to order by Chairman Stevenson at 10:00 a.m. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES Jane 26, 2018 <br /> Ms. Wilson requested changes to the minutes, noting that Xavier was not present at the meeting and <br /> requesting that, toward the bottom of page 2, "while incorporating their thoughts discussed while they <br /> developed the Bylaw" be changed to"while incorporating new thoughts and ideas." Ms. Brown <br /> suggested the addition of a comma before her name. <br /> MOTION: Ms. Waterman made a motion to approve the minutes with the edits as noted. Ms. <br /> Brown seconded the motion. All voted unanimously. <br /> APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS <br /> None at this time <br /> COMMUNICATIONS & CORRESPONDENCE <br /> None at this time <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> Review, Complete & Approve Proposal to Board of Selectmen-Chairman Stevenson and <br /> Ms. Landry worked together to re-draft the Bylaw into a Policy. Copies were distributed to Committee <br /> members. The document would be presented to the Town Manager, and shared with Town Counsel, <br /> before being considered by the Board of Selectmen, likely during a meeting on August 21, The Chair <br /> noted that the Affirmative Action Committee would not need to meet in August. <br /> The Chair read the Mashpee Inclusion and Diversity Committee policy aloud, in case additional <br /> changes were needed. <br /> #2--Remove"," between among/and <br /> Membership--Ms. Johnson-Graham inquired whether the Committee was seeking 2-year teams <br /> and it was confirmed that they were. Selectman Cotton suggested that it be addressed internally to <br /> determine a staggered schedule, so that half of the members served one term, while the other served <br /> two, in order to avoid the transition of the entire Committee. <br /> Membership--To avoid confusion, Ms. Waterman suggested separating the statements: <br /> nine voting members for two (2) year terms. One (1)member shall represent the schools, one (1) <br /> member shall represent the Wampanoag Tribe, and the remaining seven (7) shall represent the various <br /> communities listed in the purpose statement. The school representative shall be a high school student . <br />
