Marie Stevenson, Gail Wilson, Lynne Waterman, JoAnn Nadeau, Katherine
Brown, Winnie Johnson-Graham
Also Present: Elana Doyle, Louis Horner,Kim Landry-Affirmative Action Officer, John Cotton-
Selectman
Absent: Xavier Gonsalves (Non-Voting Member)
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Stevenson at 10:00 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES Jane 26, 2018
Ms. Wilson requested changes to the minutes, noting that Xavier was not present at the meeting and
requesting that, toward the bottom of page 2, "while incorporating their thoughts discussed while they
developed the Bylaw" be changed to"while incorporating new thoughts and ideas." Ms. Brown
suggested the addition of a comma before her name.
MOTION: Ms. Waterman made a motion to approve the minutes with the edits as noted. Ms.
Brown seconded the motion. All voted unanimously.
APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS
None at this time
COMMUNICATIONS & CORRESPONDENCE
None at this time
OLD BUSINESS
Review, Complete & Approve Proposal to Board of Selectmen-Chairman Stevenson and
Ms. Landry worked together to re-draft the Bylaw into a Policy. Copies were distributed to Committee
members. The document would be presented to the Town Manager, and shared with Town Counsel,
before being considered by the Board of Selectmen, likely during a meeting on August 21, The Chair
noted that the Affirmative Action Committee would not need to meet in August.
The Chair read the Mashpee Inclusion and Diversity Committee policy aloud, in case additional
changes were needed.
#2--Remove"," between among/and
Membership--Ms. Johnson-Graham inquired whether the Committee was seeking 2-year teams
and it was confirmed that they were. Selectman Cotton suggested that it be addressed internally to
determine a staggered schedule, so that half of the members served one term, while the other served
two, in order to avoid the transition of the entire Committee.
Membership--To avoid confusion, Ms. Waterman suggested separating the statements:
nine voting members for two (2) year terms. One (1)member shall represent the schools, one (1)
member shall represent the Wampanoag Tribe, and the remaining seven (7) shall represent the various
communities listed in the purpose statement. The school representative shall be a high school student .
