Ms. Stead stated that the leaders are sight-impaired and are able to relate to the <br /> group. <br /> The Sight Loss services are free—they do not tate insurance. There is no exclusion as to age. Ms, <br /> Stead stated that she works with ophthalmologists and optometrists on the Cape and receives <br /> referrals from them for individuals who could benefit from the Sight Loss Services program. <br /> Funding for the service comes primarily from grant money and fundraising initiatives. Anyone-with <br /> 20/200 with correction is considered legally blind, with certification by an ophthalmologist. <br /> Sight Loss services is currently located at 8 School street in Dennis, but is moving to goo route 13 <br /> in Dennis. <br /> NEXT MEETING SCHEDULE <br /> The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March �', 2:00 PM. It was suggested that a <br /> representative from the Community Health Center be invited as the guest speaker for the meeting. <br /> MASHPEE CAFES — Guest speakers <br /> Gail Wilson welcomed the members of Mashpee Cares to the meeting. Members represented <br /> included co-chairs Mike Richardson and Kathy Mahoney, Library Director; Peter Shea, School <br /> Psychologist; Scott Carline, Police rept.; and Path Mitro onicx Director of Prevention at Gosnold. <br /> Mike Richardson reported that he has been pushing to make the name Mashpee Cares meaningful <br /> with the focus on hover vire can do something community-wise to help the young people meet and <br /> tolerate the pressures they are facing. Mr. Richardson welcomed the opportunity to meet with the <br /> Human services committee today and stated that he would lire to include then in the Mashpee <br /> Cares effort. Many individual groups on their own in Mashpee in the recent past have tried to <br /> address the needs: including the school, the Boys & Girls Club, the Police Dept. and the library. <br /> Mashpee Cares is a joint effort to come together as one group, and work together to male an <br /> impact on resolving the problems at hand. Substance abuse has reached epidemic proportions on <br /> Cape Cod; the Mashpee Cares mission is to try to find a way to combat this growing problem. <br /> Mashpee Cares is sponsoring a Family Wellness Conference on Tuesday, Marchi ', from 5 to 7:30 <br /> PM at the Mashpee High School. "Preventing and Treating Prescription Drug Abuse" will be the <br /> topic of the conference. There will be a free spaghetti dinner at 5 PM, and a chance to win an iPad. <br /> Speakers will include Krfstoph Pydynko rsM i, a counselor and intervention specialist at Gosnold on <br /> Cape Cod; Ray Tamasi, President and CEO of Gosnold; Rep. Randy Hunt, who serves on the .Joint <br /> Committee on Mental Health and Substance Abuse; and Michael Jackson of US Rep. William <br /> beating's office. <br /> i <br /> The Mashpee Cares members were thanked for their presentation at the meeting this afternoon. <br /> ADJOURNMENT <br /> As there was no further business, Fruth Elias rade a motion that the meeting be adjourned.
