{HEWN BUSINESS, oont'd <br /> * Food Pantry Collection & Distribution <br /> Gail Wilson reported that the volume of Food Pantry donations was exceptional, with basic needs <br /> such as toilet paper and diapers included in the contributions. <br /> Ruth Elias thanked Mary Bradbury for her efforts on behalf of the Food Pantry, but felt that the public <br /> notices should have stated "in collaboration with the Human Services Department". Ms. Elias <br /> stated that the Human Services Department has been conducting Food Pantry drives for many <br /> years and would like to have been included as a contributor In collaboration with the Recreation <br /> reaMtion <br /> Department drive. John Cahalane suggested that: going forward, it would be advisable for the <br /> Duman Services Committee to increase their number of press releases to the local papers to inform <br /> } <br /> the town of their involvement in such activities as Food Pantry drives. <br /> Mashpee Cares Committee <br /> John Cahalane announced that the Board of Selectmen had approved a formal "M shpee Cares" <br /> Committee. Mr. Cahalane has requested of Mike Richardson,harrdson, Chairman of the committee, that they <br /> vane up with a Mission Statement. Mr. Cahalane stated that the committee is searching for a focus. <br /> Gail Wilson has been approved as a member of the I lashpee Cares committee, re res rating the <br /> Human Services Department. <br /> * Sub-Committee Reports <br /> 1) Marketing sub ommiftee: Veronica Warden and Elinor Gleher distributed several drafts of rack <br /> cards which they developed for distribution in the community. Ms. Warden reported that the <br /> Barnstable County Sheriffs Office print shop would do 1000 cards for$125.00. Gail vVils n and <br /> Veronica Warden agreed to meet to finalize the card selection. <br /> 2) Grant Applications: Lynne Waterman and Kathy Mohler-Fara reported on their findings re: <br /> criteria for funding Human services contracts, and distributed a list of criteria as a guide for the <br /> Human Services ommittee rnenr bers when considering contract awards. 111IsMaterman requested <br /> feedback from the committee to be directed to Gail Wilson. � <br /> * Coordinator's Report— Gall Wilson <br /> 1 Toys for Tots: Gail Wilson on spore with Tori f ullo, Fire Chief, regarding the problem that there <br /> was not a distribution site for l l ashpee residents. Ms.Wilson started that she has a list of needy <br /> families for the program. John Cahalane suggested the possible use of the former New Balance <br /> store that is now vacant. Unfortunately It is too late in the year to organize a drive for this season. <br /> The Fire Union will be contacted with Ms. V'Irilson's list of needy families. <br /> 2) Fuel Assistance Program: Gail Wilson reported that applicants have been coming in to apply <br /> for fuel assistance but the applications are not being processed in a timely manner by the South <br /> Shore Community Action Council. In addition: the Council's phone runes have been out of order, <br /> making it difficult to follow up on applications that have been submitted. The Council's response has <br /> been that they are very short stiffed. <br /> 3) Meeting with Beth Albert, Director of Barnstable County Human Services: regarding an <br /> unmet need that exists for an advocate for individuals with disabilities. Gail V `ilson and Beth Albert <br /> will meet with the Director of CORD,D, the agency that has in the past filled this role, <br /> 2 <br />
