4) Mashpee Town Counsel determined that Grafton Briggs was not obligated to replace the stolen
plaque. Grafton Briggs agreed to replace the plaque at a cost of$495.00, including installation.
5) Chairman Jeralyn Smith wrote a personal check to Grafton Briggs for $495.00, to cover the cost
and installation of the replacement plaque. The previous $110.00 committee donation was applied
toward the $495.00 charges.
Jeralyn Smith reported that the new plaque will be installed in the spring of 2013.
RUNNIING WATER FOR PARK FACILITIES
Several members of the Committee reported on their findings as to the cost to provide running
water to the State Park beach. Perry Ellis stated that it would cost the Town $240,000 to provide
potable running water to the State Park which would include installation of the required number of
fire hydrants. Lewis Newell and Jeri Smith both reported on the possibility of drilling a well. New
well pumps are now designed to run off solar panels, making this a feasible solution, since there is
no electricity at the Park. The cost of installation of a well with the solar pump would be
approximately $5000.
Depending on what the dollar amount the State will agree to underwrite the cost of providing
running water to the Park, the Committee members agreed that potable water would be the first
choice; non potable water would be a very acceptable second choice.
Jeri Smith will write a letter to our State representatives and the State Commissioner of
Conservation and Recreation, requesting their support of the South Cape Beach State Park
Advisory Committee in its efforts to provide running water to our State Park facility.
WBNERR UPDATE
John Singleton was unable to attend the meeting, but provided the following update report:
1) The summer season went well: the changing building was a huge success.
2) Six regular picnic tables and two handicapped picnic tables were added.
3) Outdoor grills were installed and were very popular
4) The entire parking lot on both sides was cut back for more visibility and safety
5) New trail access was added to Flat Pond Point to avoid beach-goers on a busy day
6) Two extra handicap parking spots were added, with resealed area and painted lines with
handicap emblem
7) This year: new benches and trash barrels were acquired. Next year: looking to install
a boardwalk to the beach from the Kiosk.
NEXT MEETING
The next meeting of the South Cape Beach State Park Advisory Committee will be held in the
Spring of 2013.
As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:45 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
i P
Ina G. Scb abohm
Recording Secretary
2
