* Will's Work Road Update and Discussion
In June, 2014, the DCR re-graded the road with 17 truckloads (approximately $10,000 worth) of gravel,
making the roadway that leads to the state-owned Callie's Beach safe to navigate. A more permanent fix
for Will's Work Road is in the works on the state government level. A $2.1 billion environmental bond bill
approved by Governor Patrick last month included an amendment that could provide Mashpee with
$500,000 to realign Will's Work Road. The plan is to create one entrance road that would lead to South
Cape Beach State Park, Mashpee Town Beach, and Callie's Beach.
Representative David Vieira stated that he has requested Governor Patrick to release the funds, and also
is offering to work with the South Cape Beach State Park Advisory Committee to complete an application
to determine whether the National Guard could assist with the project to supplement the plans outlined in
the environmental bond bill amendment. Mr. Vieira also noted that the project to improve Will's Work
Road was not included in the list of projects submitted by Senator Dan Wolf to be moved forward. Jeri
Smith will contact Senator Wolf to inquire as to why the Will's Work Road project was not included in this
list.
Jeri Smith reminded the committee that the Act dated 1976 which created the South Cape Beach State
Park Advisory Committee specifically states that the committee is to be involved in the planning and
overseeing of any and all projects involving the State Park,
Bill Martiros made a motion that Vice Chairman Mike Cardeiro be appointed as the designated contact
person from the South Cape Beach State Park Advisory Committee in the absence of Chairman Jeri
Smith, in the event that decisions are being made by the State that require Committee involvement.
Robert Lancaster seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved.
NEXT MEETING
The next meeting of the South Cape Beach State Park Advisory Committee was scheduled for spring,
2015, date to be determined.
ADJOURNMENT
As there was no further business, Robert Lancaster made a motion that the meeting be adjourned. Lewis
Newell seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved. The meeting was adjourned at
5:30 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Ina G. Schlobo m
Recording Secretary
2
