-Mashpee - Wake Lake Management
Committee
{. June 2 ,2014
7:30 PM
Mashpee Town Hall
Meeting called by: = William Taylor
Type of-meeting: Monthly
Secretary Barbara B.Nichols
Attendees* y; Members:rs: Barbara Nichols, Debi McManus,
Guests: Diane Lang, Brian Mauro
The minutes of the May 22, 2014 meeting were accepted as written after a motion by Debi McManus
and second by Barbara Nichols.
Agenda topics
gent plc 1 .Lake level/River outflow : yz
Discussion: Barbara took the lake measurements on June 1 st. and 15th. Both were 55.3 ft. above sea level
withl3 inches of water fl ing over the board closest to the lake. More sand had been washed down river
below the fishar, but there were still 7 and 8 inches of water flawing in the river by the stairs. Results
re emailed to Drew v McManu in Conservation. On June 20', Drew v emailed that he had received a call
that the lake had"dropped 2 feet in a short period.'
Drew investigated and found no problems. Barbara and Debi both felt that the caller was referring to the
shoreline receding in shallow water. No one had heard any complaints on the lake level. Drew also
.entioned that the herring had started to emigrate back down the river, and that it was shallower: down to
inches from 12 last month.
i
Conclusions: we have had little precipitation and the lake is now at 55.3 feet above sea level.
[Agenda topic 21 Jet Ski Accident
Discussion: In the June I3th Enterprise, Barbara noted that the Police business listed a jet ski accident on
1 shpee- wakeby Lake on Sunday, June 8th, but no names or ages were mentioned. Apparently, there
were no seriousIn)uri s, although one jet ski was damaged. Barbara emailed Chief CoI ins of 1 lashpee
Police Dept. for more information. Debi had seen the drivers roaring about on the lake earlier, and came
back to view the accident off Stany's dock, after the fact when other boaters were aiding the victims.
Debi noted the Harbormaster's boat was on the lake, but had been incapacitated and towed back to the
mooring. Chief Collins later emailed that the riders were a 27 yr. old male and 18 year old female,
although the male owned both PWCs. They knew each other and were traveling too close together, but
police did not feel they were driving recklessly. Chief Collins mentioned that the harbormaster would b
making more regular patrols after July 1't.
Conclusions: A jet ski accident occurred on June 8 ,2014
