Draft l - March 16, 1995
The volume of circulation transactions has gone from 34,976 per year to 72,151
items in FY94; a 106% increase. At the current level of circulation activity, FY95
transactions will exceed 80,000 items. The library has seen it's workload increase
by an average of 14% per year with only minimal increases in hours worked by
current staff. Adding additional hours to staffing has-been justified by the volume of
patrons handled and items circulated for several years, but the Board of Trustees
delayed their request because of the difficult financial situation facing the Town. The
continuing growth rate in usage of library services makes it impossible to avoid
requesting the staffing necessary to continue to provide the same level of library
services to library users.
Article 9.
To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate, borrow or transfer from
available funds the sum of$8,841 to create a 19 hour Circulation Assistant position,
Grade 3, Step 1, with said funds to be used as follows: $8,211 to the Library Salary
and Wage Account, $120 to the Medicare Account, and $510 to the Social Security
Account, or take any other action relating thereto
Submitted by the Board of Library Trustees
Explanation: The Library has not added a new position since 1988. Since that
time, circulation and useage of the Library has increased from 34,976 circulation
transactions per year to 72,151 transactions in FY94; an increase of 106%. In the
current year, FY95, circulation transactions will surpass 80,000 items. The Library
has delayed asking for aditional staffing over the last several years because of the
difficult funding situation facing the Town, even though the increasing volume of
circulation would have justified the request. The Library cannot continue to provide
the same level of services without additional staffing. Adding an additional position
will help the Library to continue to provide library and information services to it's
patrons while coping with an average growth rate of 14% per year.
Article I0.
0
To see if the Town will vote raise and appy nate, borrow or transfer from
available funds the sum of $852 reclassify o Circulation Assistant positions
from Grade 3, Step 5 Grade 4, Step d tlassify a Library Assistant position
from Grade 8, Step 5 to Grade 10, Step 3 r take any other action relating thereto.
Subm\* by the Board of Library Trustees
Page 4
