(enclosed)
Mr. Barry requested the Board further review the E-911 changes that have
taken place over the past two years as it pertains to the financial aspect of
telecommunication equipment and staffing requirements related
to the E-911 system.
Ralph Swenson,Director of Communications,Barnstable County
Sheriffs office guaranteed that the service will be provided to the Town of
Mashpee at no additional cost. He noted that at this time, the Sheriffs
Department is financially solvent to support this endeavor.
In the regional E-911 program, the Cape towns of Falmouth,Mashpee,
Harwich and Chatham will have their 911 calls answered at the County's
Communication Center in the Town of Barnstable. Eleven towns of the
fifteen Cpae towns have a-911. The four towns in the regional E-911
program do not have a-911 to date.
Mr. Barry indicated that calls would be better answered by a Town
Dispatcher than at the County level. He stated that the Dispatchers are
well trained and qualified noting that the Dispatch Center has state of the
art equipment to adequately respond to emergency calls.
