Page 2 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> May 22, 1995 <br /> F <br /> APPOINTMENTS.AND HEARIN S: <br /> Mich Minior • H 's.Sai h A m n h <br /> Selectman Caffyn recommended to contact government officials with <br /> regards to this concern. It is important to have additional citizen <br /> participation especially from residents living in the impacted areas indicated <br /> Selectman Caffyn who is the Boards liaison on the Plume Action Team. <br /> Board of Health Agent,Elias McQuaid indicated that the Mashpee Board <br /> of Health in conjunction with the Barnstable County Health Department <br /> is testing the ponds on a monthly basis. Testing is being conducted at the <br /> public bathing beaches and at the deepest holes in Johns Pond. <br /> Mr. McQuaid indicated that his office has not found any trace of <br /> contamination. If the report shows any evidence of concern,the <br /> Board of Health will post notice indicated Mr. McQuaid, <br /> Joel Feigenbaum, a Sandwich resident and member of the Plume Action <br /> Team asked Mr. Minior how long the plume has been discharging into <br /> John's Pond. Mr. Minor indicated that he did not have this information <br /> at this time. <br /> 3 <br /> Mashpee resident,Michael Forde read aloud his memo dated May 22, 1995 <br /> addressed to Congressman D.W. Young pleading with Congress to <br /> appropriate$250 million for Pollution containment-at the Base. (enclosed)Pa <br /> Mr. Forde resides on John's Pond. His fourteen year old son has been <br /> diagnosed with large-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of cancer. <br /> Although, we do not have proof that pollution causes cancer,we do know }, <br /> conclusively that there are higher incidents of cancer in Bourne, Sandwich, <br /> Mashpee and Falmouth indicated Mr.Forde. <br /> In addition to the above memo, Mr.Forde submitted information <br /> urging citizen support of the clean-up process. (enclosed) <br /> Selectman Caffyn has offered to serve as the Board's point of contact. <br /> Additional support information will be available in the Office of the <br /> Board of Selectmen. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Costa to authorize Elias McQuaid <br /> and R. Gregory Taylor to continue to represent the Town of <br /> Mashpee on Plume Action Team #1. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Caffyn, <br /> VOTE; Unanimous. 5-0. <br />
