4
MILITARY BASS ANGLERS ASSOCIATION
New England East District
PO Box 39
Fo r estda 1 e , MA 02644
Director Bob Mede i r os Co—Director : Mike Tambur all o
Tel: ( 508) 477-2991 Tel : (508 ) 586-7734
Weigh Master: Barry Rogerson Asst. We i g hmaster = Tom Der os i er
June 1 , 1995
Board of Selectmen
Town of Mas hpee
6 Great Neck Road
Mashpee , MA 02649
ti JUN 2199
r
a i
Dear Selectmen
I am address i ng the article printed i n the Mas hpee Enterprise dated 5/30/95 .
The article appears on page 1 and indicates that the Town of Mashpee will be
filing a formal complaint against our organization for not complying with
the Mashpee/lea keby Pond regulations as described by the Public Access Board ,
for a tournament that was held by us on Saturday ,, May 20 , 199S . It is
apparent that the town takes the word of one of it 's waterfront property
owners and then proceeds to condemn our actions based on pure conjecture . It
would make more sense to me to see that the Board should hear from both
parties prior to passing judgement .
I am also saddened to read that the board made rash statements about our
alleged violations of the Inas hpee/W a keby Pond regulations without doing some
research of same . We complied with the published regulation in its entirety
as witnessed by the detailed Environmental Police Officer Robert Ritchie . His
knowledge of the regulation and coordination with the harbormaster allowed
aur scheduled event to proceed without delay . These regulations wer e
Published for the convenience of all users at this public facility and in no
way can be used by anyone to suit their personal needs .
Our public access permit was approved for 25 boats and when I saw that we
would exceed the approval parameters , I called for a detailed officer as
:directed by the published regulation . To read that (Dur organization committed
a flagrant violation and that a formal complaint would be filed with Public
Access Board disturbs me . To also read that this would be taken into account
for the approval of future events held by m organization ,, also disturbs
 g me .
I ask that the Town witness one of our events and see firsthand that we are
.law abiding tai
dis e payers , who were in compliance , in lieu of publicly casting
R rsions and defamatory remarks towards our organization .
Tofurther To fu comment about the town, allowing and accepting a statement in the
es of the meeting by one of it 's taxpayers , who alleges that tournament
Asherman were intrusive Native ve er icans is appalling . Kith racial
tensions to Na Am
out be i ng a big issue in today 's society , my group i s now being singled
t as one who Prevent Native
ative Americans from fishang at eash ee/aakeb
Pond .We have Native Americans , as members of the Military Bass Anglers Associationand o
not tolerate any discriminatory cr i m ipractice .
