Most of us have served curcountry with distinction and pride and I , being a
22 year U .S . A it Force Retiree , am upset to read where we are being accused
4f disrupting our Democratic way of life , one that some gave their lives for
and it 'is one that we a 1 l defended . I personally take offense to such
statements and will _not allow myself to be placed in a category with the same
people that I once t oug ht against , an enemy who believed in this very same
ideology-
To set the record str a i g ht ,, we had 45 boats participate not the 49 to 51
as indicated . My records for the 5/20/95 are open for the Board 's perusal ,.
As described in ramp regulation # "A maximum of 2 organized events per
year may exceed the above 1 i m its ( not during July or August ) . " Our
organization is the second largest group of tournament anglers i n the State
(Mase Bass Federation being the largest ) and we hold two large tournaments
Buri ng the year . And ,, i f I might add , bath are NOT during the peak tourist
period as agreed upon . The glass Bass Federation does not hold any large
tournaments at leas hpee/Wa keby Pond , so you tell ane what we failed to comply
with? That regulation clearly indicat..es that our tournament was in compliance
and no flagrant violations were committed as alleged . We used 30 of the
parking spots and secured alternate parking for our other tr a i 1 er ed and
ontrailered vehicles . The regulation spec ically states that. non-trailered
vehicles are not to be parked at the facility . #however , on non tour n ane nt
week-ends and week days , in every case that I have personally observed ,
vehicles without watercraft are allowed to park . Isn 't there a dual standard
being employed by the tow n I am opposed to no n-tr a i 1 er ed vehicles not being
able to use the faci l ity but if the town is going to enforce the rule , then
it should be enforced as described in said regulation . To enforce it for
just tour name nt anglers i s leaning towards a d i scr i m i na for y practice . I feel
that all citizens should be able to use this public facility . We park our
overflow of vehicles as to leave additional parking spaces for the other
recreational anglers and boaters .
I have been i n contact with the Pub l i c Access Board in reference to the
aforementioned article and of this date , they have not had a complaint from
either the town or any private city zen M Based on the facts that I have given
them, I have been told that I was not OUT of COMPLIANCE . We did our part to
staY well within the. parameters of the ramp regulations and observed all
'If the public safety standards . We wish that the town would give us credit
for doing our part and obtain facts prior to their public condemnation of
'Qur organization .
z await Your comments and would like to be *invited to the next Board of
Ieiectmen meeting to answer any questions that the board or any resident may
have..
z remain respectfully ,
Y ,
f
Obert g
N Mede i r os
