Page 11 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> July 24, 1995 <br /> APPS NTS AND HEARIN S■ <br /> Pirates Cove Association - Mashp ee River Petition• <br /> Mr. York submitted a memo to the Board d ' <br /> aced July 24, 19951n <br /> response to the contamination of the Mashpee River and recommended <br /> remedies for consideration. <br /> It was noted that road runoff during storm events ' <br /> . g encs and intermittent septic <br /> failures (brief overflows) are identified-sources of contamination. <br /> . York stated that there is no conclusive evidence of failed septic <br /> systems. <br /> Recommended remedies include; bacterial control ' ' <br /> with additional catch <br /> basins,improved intermittent septic failure detection nitrogen trogen control <br /> and improved flushing to maintain and increase fresh tidal flow. <br /> Mr. York indicated that grant funding has been awarded for additional <br /> ■ ■ � o al <br /> catch basins. Funding is anticipated to be attained next month. It was <br /> noted that WBNERR is nitrogen currently evaluatingthe removal <br /> effectiveness of alternative septic systems. The results will identify <br /> Tactical solutions <br /> P �funding and implementation noted Mr. York. <br /> The Harbor Plan has identified areas to be dredged g d i ndicated Mr. York. <br /> • James Hanks, Chairman of the Waterways Commission noted that <br /> funds were appropriated at Town Meeting to begin n the initial <br /> dredging process. <br /> Robert Sherman, Conservation Agent indicated that t the Conservation <br /> Commission will assist the Waterways Commission to secure <br /> dredging permits. He suggested to further pressure the Federal <br /> Government to support grant funding. <br /> Mr. York indicated that the Coastal Resource Management ' <br /> ge ent�onmuttee <br /> comprised of nineteen individuals,man of which are de 5 <br /> • y department heads . <br /> have been reviewing this matter of concern. <br /> *It is the consensus of the Board to instruct the Coastal Resources <br /> Management Committee to develop long and short term solutions to <br /> `- implement corrective measures to remed the Mashpee River. <br /> y P <br />
