PP <br /> In other business, Selectman Caff n suggested y gg sted the Department of <br /> Public Works commit to aid the BCM in beautifying g n public areas. <br /> Ms. Coogan left a photo booklet of sign inconsistencies . <br /> g stencies and duplications <br /> in need of review. This is part of the Beautification Council's effort to <br /> rehabilitate Mashpee's to environment. Ms. Coogan requested g q be <br /> placed on a future agenda to discuss this topic of concern. <br /> Y <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Pirates Cove Association - Mashpee R' Petition: <br /> P Iver Petition. . <br /> Paul Lumsden, a resident of Pirates Cove resented petition ' <br /> . p a petition signed <br /> by more that 180 residents requesting the Selectmen take action to save <br /> the Mashpee River from destruction. <br /> Mr. Lumsden presented a synopsis of the petitionrequesting the <br /> Selectmen to assume a leadership role in determiningthe factors <br /> contributing to the degradation of the Mashpee River Estuary. Th <br /> P � e <br /> Board has also been requested to implement corrective measures. <br /> Mr.Lumsden indicated that the environmentuali of life q tY and <br /> property values have been damaged. Areas of concern include; the <br /> clarity of the water, dense marsh grass,river color and odor. <br /> It was <br /> noted that the river has been closed on a year round basis for the taking <br /> of shellfish, <br /> It was also noted that the dredgingof the Po onesset B <br /> . pp ay decreased the <br /> tidal flow of the Mashpee River. <br /> Edward Sinkiewicz expressed concern and stated that the severity <br /> of the problem <br /> p appears to e increasing. <br /> Richard York, the Shellfish Constable indicated that ' <br /> the problem is <br /> localized. High fecal coliform counts,high nitrogen and other nutrient <br /> levels are contributing to the decline of the river. <br />
