BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES
JANUARY 1 , 1995
PAGE FOUR
I NEW BUSINESS : Continued
D. Dick Shaughnessy discussed the OPTELEC System, Diol had
researched this system for a neighbor whose eysight had
degenerated. The opte l ec System i s a machine which en-
larges
n-
1arges any material which you apply to it so that a person
With limited eyesight can see it. Dick had a suppler of
brochures which explained the system. The Optelec machine
comes in two models . The first model is one which is avail-
able in libraries for the use of the patrons . The portable
hone style model can be loaned out to patrons. He brought
this information the meeting so that the librarians
might be made aware of the Optelec System, 0. Robertson
advised that the Falmouth Library had an Optelec machine,
but it was used eery little. Toni explained that they also
had page magnifiers on the stands which were lighted and
unlighted which were a lot less expensive. The brochures
were given to the library director to keep on file.
D. Shaughnessy also brought to the attention of the meeting
n item in the paper relative to the possible construction
of a skating rink, and Mr. FergusenI s recommendation to build
a "Hatch Shell" in Mashpee Commons, Both of these ideas were
recommended to utilize the commons.
Dick was aware that Fields Point had made the statement
that they would clear that ground by this spring of 1995.
He was disturbed by the idea of a slating rink being in-
stalled in that ground. He felt it would cause all kinds
of problems.
Dick felt the recommendation of a "Hatch Shell" was a bit
more amenable, but if it were acoustically correct., it would
be a bit of a monstrosity.
Selene stated that when she first heard about it, she thought
about the creation of traffic problems for the library.
VII ADJOURNMENT:
Having no further business before them, the meeting adjourned
at 8: 00 p. m.
NEXT MEETING: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 1995, 7 : 00 Pe M&
Respectfully submitted,
x
ara Gannon
Board Secretary
