JAN-16-196 TUE 13:31 I . ASHPEE PUBLIC LIB. TEL U* -508- -1437 #396 P03
L*
BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES
i
JULY 11, 1 9
PAGE
V BUSINESS FROM PREVIOUS MEETINGS ntinued
H. DeFoe, Library Director, was asked to describe what she
saw as the library' s needs, and how they related to building
needs .
Helene explained that the meeting r orn was too small for meet-
ings. There were manor .more groups who would like to use the
meeting room for whom t was too small.
The reference are ai s comprised of ,a handful of shelves, and
that ha►s been outgrown.
The periodicals area has been outgrown. The reference area
should consider expansion into the periodicals area, but then
there would be no space to put the periodicals .
We have in our long range plan to include a y ung adult area.
There is no space available.
There is virtually ,no seating space for those who want to
orae in and study..
There is no room far any . ie tronic equipment. There is no
place to put them-.
It is not just stack space. ' We are rapidly ,running out of
stag space. It is all o the services that we cannot provide
clue to lack of space. '
.Dick Shaughnessy suggested the phasing approach, 'Which might
be a novel approach to Town Half. lie -reviewed that we were dis-
c us s ing, toughly,. 6 5 5,00 0 .f or - the two-awing approach. ' If e
3
move to the two phase approach, the q stion is, how much
would phase I east, and how- xuh would phase 1i cost? Even
if it might cost more in total, it might be an advantageous
eous
selling point.
Mr. Therrien suggested that we take the number of 5 , 000 s . f.
o .space, it becomes a $600,-000 to $700,,Oo p oje t. Or, in
1996, we can go t $180,000,- ' .nd another two years, anothor
$180,.000 . The Town can buy- ,the whole package now, for this
price, and be cone with a.t, 'and get the cheapest Price, or
would it be more palatable to do it in several increments .
M. Marsh h explain d that Mashpee was a growing town, and a
growing library.. She does n t see how we can function in--
de initolir .as a are set up. we have just utc ro r the space
have in this i
