IR Page 3 questioned why the Town Clerk's Salary and Wage was increased by $13,000. Mr. Vaccaro stated that there is a full time position that has been created in that office already, but the Selectmen were recommending she hire a 19 hour, no benefits employee. They have only funded enough for this., Mr. Goggin asked why the Planning Board's Expense Account has increased so much. Mr, Costa answered that it was due to software training. Mr. Goggin asked why the Town Hall Expense has increased $10,0004 r. Costa answered that the Town had not pro 3 ected enough for postage. The Finance Committee asked for a breakdown of the costs. The two Boards discussed the Police Department's request for a dispatch supervisor. It was Ms. Caf n s feeling that the need for additional dispatchers would be less necessary with E911, She stated that she was in favor of promoting from within dispatch, but not hiring a new person for supervisor. The two grouper also spoke about the request for three patrolmen. Mr. Vaccaro indicated that the Chiu will be trying very hard to dire only trained patrolmen. . Goggin noted that he did not see overtime being decreased. The request for four additional firemen was discussed* Ir. Whritenour stated that with this hire, it would help reduce calls and adequately staff the department. It would also lead to a decrease in overtime. The ambulance fees have been increased to help offset the cost of four additional men. Mr. Goggin mentioned the possibility of privatization or a volunteer fire department. Mr. Bacigalupi stated that according to national studies, it would cast the Tour' more, Mr. Goggin asked Mr. Bacigalupi to provide these studies, Ms, Caf fyn mentioned the possibility of having volunteer/seasonal firefighters The croup spoke about the Office of the Building Inspector. Both Caffyn and Mr. Costa agreed that he needs an assistant, Ms, Caffyn felt that extra revenue brought in would help offset the cost of the assistant. Mr. Golub asked if the Building Inspector could give a detail of hove much extra revenue could be earned if he had assistance? Mr,. hritenour noted a change in the recommendation by the Selectmen for the School. The amount recommended is $6 ,707,975. Pyr. Goggin asked about the two positions being requested by the Department of Public Works. fir. ih itenour stated that the Selectmen agreed to go along with the highly needed position, the heavy equipment operator, This is also a potential money raker fox- the Town. Mr. Coggin asked if the selectmen were planning on reviewing the report from the Capital Committee? r. Costa asked that the Executive Secretary put it on their agenda for Monday. Mr, Goggin asked about the street sweeper. Currently a private company is coming in and sweeping. It is a safety issue.
