Stephanie noted she received a note from the Master Gardeners Coordinator that they are
starting a garden at the tribal land and have asked for volunteers. Another idea is getting the
schools involved and suggested doing outreach and to let people know. It was also noted any
redesign should be approved by the Historic District. Irene noted the parking is limited and if
we get people to donate mulch or anything else there is no place to dump it. This could be
part of the redesign. Michael said the Historic Commission is looking at that entire site and in
terms of redesign we want to be sure its going to be a permanent location for the garden. He
noted there is an original plan and what we have now is phase one and they actually were
thinking of a phase two to expand down the road, Anything major in the design, we should
think about meeting with the Historic Commission to see what their future plans are. We
need to coordinate with them to make sure we are working in concert with them. It was noted
there is additional parking at the gazebo and there is also a shed on the property. It was
determined that the shed on the property belongs to the gardens and the committee will take
a look at its condition. Anthony stated that he has some professionals that are willing to give
a presentation before the committee on design ideas. Stephanie also informed the committee
that the Association for the Preservation of Cape Cod is also willing to do an educational
piece.
The committee discussed cleaning up the gardens and getting rid of the weeds. It was
agreed to meet on Sunday the 19th from 8:00 a.m. to 12 to for a trial run. They also agreed to
organize a clean up day on Saturday August 25 from 8 to 12. Volunteers will be asked to
participate and they will ask Katelyn Cadoret to reach out to the land steward volunteers.
The Committee discussed informing the public on the progress of the community garden and
it was suggested having a table with brochures at the October Fest, and thru MEC and a
Facebook page.
Their first goal is to focus on the weeds.
Motion: Mr. Talbot moved to adjourn, seconded by Irene Vote unanimous 7-0
Meeting Adjourned 8:45 pm.
ADJOURNMENT: NEXT MEETING is Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 7:00 PM
3
