3 Board of Selectmen Minutes August 21, 2017 Present: Selectman O'Hara, Selectman Cotton, Selectman Sherman, Selectman Gottlieb, Selectman Cahalane Town Manager Rodney C. Collins Assistant Town Manager Wayne E. Taylor Meeting Called to Order by Chairman O'Hara at 6:30 p.m. Mashpee Town Hall, Waquoit Meeting Room Statement from the Board reaffirming Mashpee as a No Place for Hate community On August 16, 2017, members of the Board of Selectmen became aware of an incident that occurred in the New Seabury area involving an element of hate. The Board condemns the person or persons responsible for this act. - The Board further wants to promote public awareness by reaffirming its commitment to being a"No Place for Hate" community. Selectman Gottlieb read aloud a statement appropriate for this matter as follows; There are not two sides to this issue. There is one statement that is appropriate and one only. Nazis, Nen Nazis and the KKK and those who agree with their ideology have no place in civil society. Period. End of sentence. There is no but and no qualifier and anyone in public office who offers anything other than blatant condemnation is beneath the office they hold and that applies to us right up to the President. It is our obligation to call out evil, bigotry and hatred. We cannot remain silent. It has been said, and proven true throughout human history, that the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. We are not silent, and you should not be either. MINUTES Monday, August 7, 2017 Regular Session: Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to approve the Regular Session minutes of Monday, August 7, 2017 as presented. Motion seconded by Selectman Sherman.
