Mashpee Affordable Housing Committee <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> January 7,2014 at 6:30 pm. <br /> wa uoit Meeting Room, Mashpee Town Hall <br /> 'resent: Chairman Walter Abbott, Berkeley Johnson, Kalliope EglofT, Allan Isbit <br /> Also Present: Selectman Mile Richardson, Michelle Toby <br /> CALL To ORDER <br /> Chairman Abbott opened the meeting at 630 p.m. and the roll was called. <br /> APPROVAL OF TES-N vember 5, 2013 <br /> It was requested that details regarding Selectman Richardson"s.Town update- at the bottom of <br /> page 2, be removed from the minutes as some of the details were less relevant to the meeting's <br /> agenda. The Chair referenced a recent newspaper article regarding affordable housing and <br /> voiced his encouragement and opinion that 2014 would be the year for affordable housing in <br /> Mashpee. <br /> Mr. Johnson made a motion to approve the minutes as amended. Ms.Egloffseconded the <br /> motion. All voted unanimously. <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> i <br /> Feasibility Study Status <br /> The Chair-man announced that the final report for the Feasibility Studer on 209 Old Barnstable <br /> Road had been completed by Horsley Witten, and emailed to the members of the Afford abl e <br /> Housing Committee. It was determined that the parcel could support a 20-30 unit development. <br /> Regarding a Natural Heritage land swap, it had been suggested the possibility of utilizing land <br /> located at Heritage Park. Suggested design layout ideas were provided within the.report, as well <br /> details regarding the box turtle_ Concern was expressed regarding the suggested designs, with a <br /> preference expressed by the Committee for cluster-type housing rather than a single building, in <br /> keeping with the tone of Mashpee. The Chair recommended that the Affordable Housing <br /> Committee forward a letter to the Town Manager supporting a multi-building concept. There <br /> was discussion regarding the cottage housing concept but it was noted that it could limit the <br /> number of available units. Ms. off encouraged consideration of innovative ideas for <br /> 9 <br /> affordable housing, including community gardens and public space. There was agreement that <br /> the AHC would support the building of some form of cluster housing rather than one single <br /> apartment building. <br /> There was discussion regarding a recommendation to the Town Manager. Vis. Egloff <br /> recommended that the AHC dram a list of preferred characteristics for an affordable housing <br /> development, beginning with a cluster concept in place of a single building. Mr. Johnson offered <br /> to draft text to be forwarded to the members of the Committee which the Chair could thea share <br /> with Ms. Mason. Selectman Richardson indicated that the next step would be to draft an RFP <br /> and the Chair requested that the Affordable Mousing Cottee be allowed to review the RPP in <br /> order to provide comments. <br /> i <br />
