He also commented we could get the press involved. <br /> Additional discussion was held regarding extra cost per person per trip which leads to <br /> another problem. <br /> Update Ongoing Efforts to Provide, "Areas of Refuge" in Mashpee Schools <br /> Michele Brady gave an update on the Areas ofRefuge in the schools. She said she met <br /> with Deputy Chief Toni Rullo of the Fire Department and they clarified the rooms and <br /> checked with Richard Morgan and.doe Clifford. Designated Rooms are room 211 in K.C. <br /> Combs School and room 223 in the Middle SchooMgh School and the Quashnet School <br /> does not need one because it only has one story. The first step is to make sure these are <br /> approved and the people working with these children know where these rooms are but we <br /> have to have a substitute plan so that everyone knows where they are. Charlie stated that <br /> this is driven by ADA to identify the rooms. Michele said the Fire department has the <br /> building plan so they would know easily where to find the rooms. It was noted the one <br /> floor schools do not need an area of refuge. Michele noted the school has a fair amount <br /> of staff assigned to the students with severe disabilities (almost one to one) to ensure safe <br /> and efficient evacuation. <br /> Bob thanked Catherine Laurent for coming to the meeting and she excused herself from <br /> the meeting. <br /> Bob asked Catherine to remind the contractors not to ploy in the handicap spaces. <br /> Conflict of Interest Policy <br /> The committee members signed the Conflict of Interest Policy <br /> Mashpee Fitness Center <br /> Carol Sherman announced she took a tour of the new Mashpee Fitness Center. The pool <br /> is handicap accessible. It is very nicely laid out. They have an area for a changing room <br /> for wheelchairs and a person to assist_ They will open on January 2 1 <br /> Discuss Progress on Reviewing Access to Commercial and Professional Facilities in <br /> Mashpee <br /> Carol Sherman gage an update on the brochure indicating accessibility situations at the <br /> commercial properties. She said Mary Lou Columbo will start next week working on the <br /> guidebook. Carol asked if the committee could get information from the businesses to <br /> assess wheelchair accessibility or handicap accessibility for each business that she lists. <br /> Carol said she will ask her to meet with Charlie. Bob gave Carol a checklist of what <br /> should be looked for. She said Mary Lou will be sending an email out to all the <br /> businesses and ask them if they are handicap accessible. She said that she and Marr Lou <br /> 1 <br />
